Dolly Parton Receives 100-Million Albums Sold Award

Dolly Parton 100-Million Sold AwardSomerset, UK -- The most celebrated female in country music history, Dolly Parton, receives, yet, another accolade for RIAA gold, platinum, and multi-platinum career sales of more than 100 million albums worldwide. While attending the historic Glastonbury Music Festival, Dolly took time to speak to journalists before hitting the Pyramid stage in front of a crowd exceeding 100,000 music loving fans. During Dolly’s press event, BBC2 Radio’s Lauren Laverne introduced CTK Management CEO and Dolly Records President Danny Nozell and Glastonbury owner Michael Eavis who made the special plaque presentation which commemorated her sales of 100 million albums worldwide.

Larry Cordle to be Inducted to Kentucky Music Hall of Fame

Larry CordleOne of bluegrass music's favorite songwriters and performers, Larry Cordle, is scheduled to be inducted into the 2015 Kentucky Music Hall of Fame Class. Born and raised on a small family farm in eastern Kentucky, Larry has written for a wide variety of artists from country to bluegrass and most styles in between. His song, "Murder on Music Row" won the CMA Song of the Year in 2000 and was recorded by Country music's George Strait. Known in bluegrass circles with his band Lonesome Standard Time, the Grammy nominated group has performed for almost a quarter century. His latest album, Pud Marcum's Hangin' has received rave reviews.

Bankesters Capture Best Bluegrass Album Award

The BankestersOne of the fastest rising bluegrass artists, The Bankesters, captured the Best Bluegrass Album for their Love Has Wheels release at the 13th annual Independent Music Awards. The award comes on the heels of significant radio activity for the new album. Love Has Wheels has found itself on radio charts and "(Cups) When I'm Gone" is currently moving up the Bluegrass Unlimited Chart.

1890s Day Jamboree Old Time Fiddler Winner Announced

Gail Johnson, Randall Franks, Maddie DentonOrganizers at the 1890s Day Jamboree Old Time Fiddlers Convention welcomed over 125 contestants including fiddlers, guitarists, mandolinists, bands, banjo players, and cloggers from states across the south to Ringgold, GA on May 24, 2014. Fiddlers and dancers struck a chord with audiences as they cheered dozens of musicians on to victory to win nearly $7,000 in prize money sponsored by Walter Jackson Chevrolet, Complete Cash, Wells Fargo on the Northwest Georgia Bank stage at the historic Catoosa County Courthouse.

Banjo Legend Ralph Stanley Receives Second Honorary Doctorate

Dr. Ralph StanleyNashville, TN -- On Monday, May 19, Yale University awarded bluegrass pioneer Ralph Stanley the Doctor of Music degree at ceremonies in New Haven, Connecticut that also saw honorary degrees going to World Wide Web founder Tim Berners-Lee, poet Rita Dove and actor Anna Deavere Smith, among others. Stanley’s award was presented by Yale president Peter Salovey, a bluegrass enthusiast himself who plays bass in a band called Professors of Bluegrass.

North Carolina Heritage Award Performances Set for May 20

Bobby Hicks by Pat FranklinFive North Carolinians from diverse artistic traditions will be awarded the North Carolina Heritage Award on Tuesday, May 20 at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts in Raleigh. Recipients include: Bobby Hicks, a 10-time Grammy award-winning bluegrass fiddler; Susan Leveille, a Jackson County hand weaver; Sid Luck, a fifth-generation potter from Seagrove; Bill Myers, whose band The Monitors has played rhythm and blues and jazz music for more than 50 years; and Arnold Richardson, a Haliwa-Saponi artist who has influenced the revitalization of North Carolina Indian arts. These five accomplished artists will be honored on Tuesday, May 20 in Raleigh with a North Carolina Heritage Award.

Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion Gets Best of Show

This latest recognition comes after the festival received the cities of Bristol Mayors' Award of Distinction in April and several Southeast Festival & Events Association Kaleidoscope Awards, including "Best Festival", in February. The Pinnacle awards were sponsored by Bristol Motor Speedway and held at the Carnegie Hotel in Johnson City, Tennessee.

At The Feed & Seed Awarded Best Documentary

Lonesome Will Mullins BandAt The Feed & Seed, an independent film written and directed by April Janow and Dax Cuesta, recently won the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the 15th Annual Bare Bones International Film and Music Festival, held April 3-13, 2014 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. At The Feed & Seed, also a Best Music Documentary nominee, was screened at the historic Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame and was followed by a rousing bluegrass and claw-hammer banjo performance by Lonesome Will Mullins and the Virginia Playboys, one of the film’s featured bands.

2014 FreshGrass Award Open for Submissions

MASS MoCANorth Adams, MA -- The FreshGrass Award, a highlight of the eponymous three-day bluegrass and roots music festival held each fall at MASS MoCA, crowns up-and-coming musicians who offer a fresh take on the genre.
