‘David Holt’s State of Music’ Examines Future of Mountain Music

David Holt and Rhiannon GiddensAsheville’s David Holt has found many ways over the years to present mountain music to the world. He performs the music himself and helps spread the tradition of mountain music, its history and its people, through stories, photography and television. In David Holt's State of Music, David introduces viewers to modern masters of traditional music in the Southern mountains and remembers the legends who taught him.

We will be honoring David Holt with our Lifetime Achievement Award, and he will be in concert, along with Dom Flemons and the South Carolina Broadcasters, all on Friday evening. Saturday features all-day competitions plus a dance featuring The Hushpuppies with caller Aaron Ratcliffe. Legendary musician, storyteller and four-time Grammy award winner David Holt performs with his five-piece band the Lightning Bolts for the Shindig on the Green Fundraising Concert, Saturday December 1st at 7:00pm at the Upper Anderson Auditorium at Montreat College.

The RoysMarion, VA- Song of the Mountains will be presenting their final concert for 2011 at the historic Lincoln Theatre in Marion, Virginia on Saturday, December 17th. "This will wrap up or seventh season of quality public television tapings for our concert series," states Tim White the executive coordinator and host of the popular bluegrass, old time and Americana music program that reaches tens of millions of fans across the United States each year. "All of us with Song of the Mountains want to thank everyone who has supported our groundbreaking concert series over the past seven years. We have presented over 290 bands and well over 1,000 musicians to viewers across America over the past seven years on public television. I am proud to be part of such a professional and talented team at the Lincoln Theatre," said White.
