Tony Rice Honored with Charlie Poole Lifetime Achievement Award

Tony Rice Receives Charlie Poole Music Festival Lifetime Achievement AwardSunday, June 12th, The Charlie Poole Music Festival awarded their Lifetime Achievement Award to bluegrass guitar master Tony Rice. This is a great award and was almost on time for Rice's 64th birthday which he celebrated June 8th.

Charlie Poole Music Festival 2014Make plans now to attend the 19th annual Charlie Poole Music Festival in Eden, North Carolina - June 13th and 14th, 2014. We will be honoring David Holt with our Lifetime Achievement Award, and he will be in concert, along with Dom Flemons and the South Carolina Broadcasters, all on Friday evening. Saturday features all-day competitions plus a dance featuring The Hushpuppies with caller Aaron Ratcliffe. This festival is High, Wide and Handsome and as full of life and good times as Charlie's life. Come join the celebration.

John McEuen to Receive Charlie Poole Lifetime Achievement Award

John McEuenJohn McEuen will be the recipient of this year's Lifetime Achievement Award at the 18th annual Charlie Poole Music Festival in Eden, N.C. this weekend. The festival celebrates the music of Charlie Poole and his bandmates, The North Carolina Ramblers. Poole was a pioneer in music and an early entertainer in the country and bluegrass music genres. Poole and the band went to New York City in 1925, auditioned for Columbia Records, and recorded four tracks for the label.

Library of Congress National Recording Registry Seeking Nominations

I Want You to VoteEach year since 2002 the National Recording Preservation Board (NRPB) and members of the public have nominated recordings to the National Registry. The breadth of nominations received highlights the richness of the nation's audio legacy and underscores the importance of assuring the long-term preservation of that legacy for future generations. Bluegrass music and related music (e.g., Charlie Poole) have a place in the registry. The Bluegrass music community is invited to contribute their suggestions for the National Recording Registry.
