Foggy Mountain BanjoSanta Monica, CA -- It was 1961 when Lester Flatt, Earls Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Boys released Foggy Mountain Banjo on Columbia records. The album is part of the 2013 Grammy® Hall of Fame Inductees for Country (album). "The Titanic" by Ernest V. "Pop" Stonemen is also an inductee for Country Single and was released on Okeh in 1924. These join the legendary Bob Dylan song "The Times They Are A-Changin'" and many others. 2013 marks the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the Grammy® Hall Of Fame with 27 recordings added to the collection residing at the Grammy® Museum®.

The Legendary Master of the 3-Finger Banjo, Earl Scruggs Dies

Earl ScruggsThe legendary master of the 3-Finger "Scruggs-Style" banjo died yesterday of natural causes. Earl Scruggs, 88, passed away in Nashville, Tennessee. He had been in declining health for a while. There is no doubt that Earl Scruggs and his banjo were responsible for the sound of what we call bluegrass music today.

Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs' 1957 'Foggy Mountain Jamboree' to 2012 Grammy Hall of Fame

Foggy Mountain JamboreeSanta Monica, CA /PRNewswire/ -- Continuing the tradition of preserving and celebrating great recordings, The Recording Academy announces the newest additions to its legendary Grammy Hall Of Fame collection. Highlighting diversity and musical excellence, the collection acknowledges both singles and album recordings of all genres at least 25 years old that exhibit qualitative or historical significance. Through a tradition established nearly 40 years ago, recordings are reviewed annually by a special member committee comprising of eminent and knowledgeable professionals from all branches of the recording arts, with final approval by The Recording Academy's National Board of Trustees. With 25 new titles, the list currently totals 906 and is displayed at the Grammy Museum.
