John McEuen Bids Adieu to Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

John McEuenNashville, TN -- John McEuen, one of the founding members of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (NGDB), has announced his immediate departure from the iconic group. Stating “enough is enough,” McEuen exits upon the conclusion of the NGDB 2017 tour in Fargo, ND - Sunday 10/22/17, marking the end of the band’s 50th year anniversary. McEuen’s decision to exit NGDB comes upon careful considerations and contemplation. “In assessing the situation surrounding our performances, business disagreements and ongoing difference of opinions, the timing is appropriate for my departure. As a catalyst to my decision, in December 2015, I received confirmation from Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Inc. that I was an ‘employee’-- no longer a member of the corporation that I helped to build,” stated McEuen.

PBS special, which was nominated for a Midsouth Regional EMMY® for Special Event Coverage on Friday. Produced for PBS by Todd Squared, Todd Jarrell, Todd Mayo, Steve Schweidel, and directed by James Yockey, Circlin' Back ran nationwide in conjunction with a PBS pledge drive in March 2016. Circlin' Back is also available as a cd/dvd combo with bonus songs and interviews, released Sept. 30 via Warner Music Nashville.

Tennessee Tourism Honors 50th Anniversary Of Dirt Band

Nitty Gritty Dirt BandNashville, TN -- In Celebration of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s 50th anniversary, the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development honored bandmates Jeff Hanna, Jimmie Fadden, Bob Carpenter and John McEuen with special commemorative art pieces that included official Tennessee Ambassador of Goodwill certificates signed by Gov. Bill Haslam. The special presentation took place at Nissan Stadium during CMA Fest, just prior to the band’s debut performance at the stadium. Brian Wagner, assistant commissioner of marketing, Department of Tourist Development, made the presentation to each member of the world-renowned group.

During the height of the Cold War, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band became the first American band to tour the U.S.S.R., playing 28 sold-out shows. The story of this unusual East/West friendship shows how the power of music can change the world, a featured subject in the new documentary film "Rockin' The Kremlin," directed by four time Emmy Award director Jim Brown, due for May 2012 release.
