Balsam Range Returns to the Studio for 2014 Release

Balsam RangeArden, NC --- Members of the award-winning band, Balsam Range, have been back in the studio, putting the finishing touches on the band’s fifth album on Mountain Home Music. Bass player and vocalist Tim Surrett calls the project the “strongest collection of songs” the band has ever recorded.

Balsam Range’s Buddy Melton on his Road to Recovery

Buddy MeltonNashville, TN -- Last Thanksgiving, Buddy Melton was simply grateful to be alive. This year, he’s eager to share new insights after triumphantly returning from life-threatening injuries sustained in an accident on his farm. His nose, forehead and right eye socket were shattered when a cow kicked a heavy metal gate, which struck Melton in the head. The singer/fiddler endured a 10-hour reconstructive surgery, months of recovery, and lost more than 30 pounds. He continues to deal with medical issues including loss of taste and smell, and facial numbness.

Balsam Range Announces Winter Concert Series

Balsam Range's Marc Pruett Remembers Hall of Fame Inductee Paul Warren

Marc PruettNashville, TN --- In the wake of winning Album of the Year at the IBMA awards, Balsam Range’s banjo player Marc Pruett paused at a table backstage which held the plaques for Hall of Fame inductees Tony Rice and Paul Warren. Gently touching the plaque for Warren, Pruett was overhead saying simply, “Aw, I miss him. He was my friend.”

Balsam Range's Nicholson Honors Breast Cancer Awareness Month

 Darren NicholsonArden, NC -- While an electric mandolin is not the usual stage fare for Darren Nicholson, the Balsam Range player has dusted off his unique pink J Bovier electric mandolin for a few special events in the month of October. "It's just my way of making people think," says Nicholson, who used to design mandolins for the J Bovier company. "I call it my 'Hello Kitty' mandolin and it seemed appropriate for Breast Cancer Awareness Month."

MerleFest Lineup Features IBMA Award-Winning Artists

Super Hot Bluegrass Nights at the Ryman Kicks Off in One Week

Balsam Range Helps a Small Town Make a Big Difference

Balsam RangeArden, NC -- When Balsam Range member Tim Surrett was told by his niece, Paige, about two students at one school who are fighting cancer, he and his band mates heeded the call. A third grade teacher at Clyde Elementary School in Clyde, NC, Paige told Tim that the school was trying to find a way to help the two families, and the power of love and music was set in motion. A Sunday afternoon benefit was held at Haywood Community College with bluegrass artists Balsam Range providing the toe-tapping entertainment. All proceeds were donated to the families of young Carter Green and Howell Brown III. Carter was able to attend the event, but little Howell is currently hospitalized at Duke University.

John Driskell Hopkins, Balsam Range Debut at Grand Ole Opry March 8th

As a bass player, guitar player, singer and songwriter for several bands of the rock variety, Hopkins rooted himself in the Atlanta, GA music scene in 1995, producing records and touring with his band Brighter Shade and later becoming a founding member of the Zac Brown Band to this day. Now he has teamed up with North Carolina-based band and Mountain Home Recording artists, Balsam Range, to record and independently produce a new album, Daylight, which saw its national release on January 22nd.

Bluegrass Pioneer Melvin Goins and Balsam Range on Song of the Mountains

Melvin GoinsMarion, VA -- The legendary bluegrass music artist Melvin Goins and his band Windy Mountain will be part of the fantastic lineup of talent for Song of the Mountains on September 1st at the Lincoln Theatre. Joining Melvin Goins on the show will be Balsam Range who will be making their second appearance on the award winning public television series which is currently in their eighth year of tapings.
