Bluegrass and More on Song of the Mountains April 6

The GrascalsMarion, VA- The award winning and high energy bluegrass band the Grascals will headline the Song of the Mountains public television concert taping this Saturday, April 6th at the Lincoln Theatre in Marion, VA. Also on the concert with the Grascals will be the old time music of the Whitetop Mountain Band along with two bluegrass gospel bands, the Easter Brothers and Jonathan Buckner and Chosen Road.

Crooked Road RamblersKilby Spencer and the Crooked Road Ramblers play traditional old-time dance and bluegrass music from the mountains of Virginia and North Carolina. Members of the band are Kilby Spencer on fiddle, Amanda Spencer on banjo, John Perry on guitar, Donald Hill on guitar and vocals, and Karen Carr on bass and vocals. Don’t miss Kilby Spencer and the Crooked Road Ramblers at the Carter Family Fold. It will be an evening of down-home entertainment. Bring along your friends and your dancing shoes! Saturday, December 1st, 2012, at 7:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert by Kilby Spencer and the Crooked Road Ramblers. Admission to the concert is $8 for adults, $1 for children 6 to 11, under age 6 free.

Whitetop Mountain Band Brings High Mountain Music to Carter Fold

Whitetop Mountain BandHiltons, VA -- Whitetop Mountain Band is a family-based band from the highest mountains of Virginia. Whitetop is an area rich in old time music tradition, and this band has deep roots in mountain music. The band’s members have worked tirelessly to preserve the region’s style of old time fiddling and banjo picking and are legendary musicians and teachers of the style. Their shows are high energy and unlike any other show you have ever seen. There’s everything from fiddle and banjo instrumentals to powerful solos and harmony vocals on blues, classic country, honky tonk, traditional bluegrass numbers, old timey ballads, originals, four-part mountain gospel songs – and some flat foot dancing. Well-known for their charisma on stage and their ability to engage audiences of all ages, this group has been performing at the Carter Fold since shows first began at the A.P. Carter Grocery in the 1970s.

Crooked Road Bluegrass and Traditional Music Festival October 5th-7th

As The Crooked Road: Virginia’s Music Heritage Trail and the Town of Abingdon team up to host this first ever Crooked Road Music Festival that will feature musical performances, workshops and competitions.

Documentary on Country Music Birthplace at Musical Fundraiser on September 30th in Bristol

Echoes of the Blue RidgeBristol, TN/VA- The Appalachian Cultural Music Association (ACMA) will release a documentary, Echoes of The Blue Ridge, to the public on Sunday, September 30th at 3:00 pm at the ACMA Pickin’ Porch located on the upper level of the Bristol Mall in Bristol, Virginia. There will be plenty of live bluegrass and old time music at the event to celebrate the project’s release. The documentary is of the music and the Blue Ridge Mountain region of Appalachia.

Floyd Country Store Hosts Old Time Halloween Dance October 29

Floyd Country Store Halloween DanceFloyd, VA -- The Floyd Country Store will host an Old Time Halloween dance on Saturday, October 29th 2011 at 7:30 PM with the Whitetop Mountain Band. This is a chance to dress up and have fun. There will be awards for best costumes in a wide range of categories! The Floyd Country Store is famous for old time dancing, and we feel truly honored that some of the great Appalachian old time bands love to play on our stage.
