Foxhounds and FiddlesFlashback, newly signed to Pinecastle Records, plans an April 21 release for their debut album, Foxhounds and Fiddles. Made up of a gathering of super pickers and entertainers in Bluegrass, Flashback members are Phil Leadbetter, Don Rigsby, Richard Bennett and Curt Chapman.

2016 American Banjo Museum Hall of Fame Honorees Announced

J.D. CroweOklahoma City, OK -- The American Banjo Museum in Oklahoma City is pleased to announce the 2016 inductees into the American Banjo Museum Hall of Fame. The National Four-String Banjo Hall of Fame was established in 1998 to honor jazz age four-string banjo pioneers as well as the contemporary artists, educators, manufacturers and promoters who carried on the traditions of their predecessors. The American Banjo Museum was, in its infancy, an extension of that Hall of Fame.

Standing Tall and Tough is available from Mountain Home Music and captures the traditional drive and emotion of 1950's and 60's Bluegrass, on songs these artists helped to make classics, including "Fraulein" and "Hills of Roane County." Both tunes are Bluegrass standards due in part to the high, lonesome sound of Paul Williams.

Woodsongs Celebrates J.D. Crowe Monday Feb 11

J.D. CroweJ.D. Crowe is in fact one of the greatest bluegrass stars of all time. He comes to WoodSongs to help us celebrate his legacy career, amazing banjo style and his recent honors from the University of Kentucky. Crowe began playing the banjo early and was offered a job with Jimmy Martin's Sunny Mountain Boys in mid-1950s. In the late 1960s, Crowe formed the Kentucky Mountain Boys, principally performing in the Lexington, Kentucky region. By the early 1970s, Crowe changed the band's name to The New South, widely considered one of the most influential bluegrass groups in history.

J.D. Crowe Receiving Honorary DoctorateDr. Thomas Adler worked to get one of America's legendary banjo artists his due. Adler announced that the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees has designated bluegrass music banjoist and bandleader J.D. Crowe as one of the recipients of an honorary doctorate. The Doctor of Arts degree was conferred at a Commencement ceremony in Lexington, Kentucky, on December 14th, 2012.

Bluegrass Album Band to Appear for First Time in 23 Years at Bluegrass First Class

Bluegrass Album BandOn February 15-17, 2013 in the Grand Ballroom at the Crowne Plaza Resort, 1 Resort Dr., Asheville, NC, Milton Harkey will present the 18th annual Bluegrass First Class bluegrass music festival. The Sunday Morning Gospel Show is free and open to all attendees. On Saturday, February 16, 2013 Harkey will present a special reunion of one of the greatest bands in the history of bluegrass music: The Bluegrass Album Band. Tickets go on sale Monday October 15th at 10:00 AM.

J.D. Crowe and Mike Snider to be Honored at 2012 Uncle Dave Macon Days

J.D. CroweMurfreesboro, TN -- One of an elite group of highly charged down-home old-time and bluegrass music and dance competitions, the 35th Annual Uncle Dave Macon Days festival is set to kick off July 13-15th, at Cannonsburgh Village in historic Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The celebration includes the two award honors of outstanding recognition -- the 2012 Heritage Award and the Trailblazer Award. This year, Mike Snider will be presented the 2012 Heritage Award and bluegrass banjo legend, J.D. Crowe will receive the honored 2012 Trailblazer award. A purse of more than $15,000 is at stake during Friday and Saturday's Uncle Dave Macon Days competitions along with many other activities at the all-family event.
