Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn; O'Connor Band Added to FolkWest Lineup

Béla Fleck & Abigail WashburnPagosa Springs, CO -- Sure, in the abstract, a banjo duo might seem like a musical concept beset by limitations. But when the banjo players cast in those roles are Abigail Washburn and Béla Fleck—she with the earthy sophistication of a postmodern, old-time singer-songwriter, he with the virtuosic, jazz-to-classical ingenuity of an iconic instrumentalist and composer with bluegrass roots— it's a different matter entirely.

The O’Connor Band Releases “Coming Home” Video

O’Connor Band Coming HomeThe O’Connor Band was number one again on the Billboard Bluegrass Chart again this past week. The O’Connor Band has just released a new video of the band performing “Coming Home” which features some skateboarding fiddle playing by Mark. Consisting of four master instrumentalists, The O'Connor Band is all family -- Grammy and CMA Award-winning Mark O'Connor (violin); Mark's wife, Maggie (violin); his son Forrest (mandolin); and Forrest's fiancé, Kate Lee (violin). 'Coming Home,' their 12-track debut album on Rounder Records, debuted at number one on the Billboard Bluegrass Albums Chart last month. For all the instrumental virtuosity on display here, it is the songs - both Mark's instrumental compositions, and the vocal songs written by Forrest and Kate, the band's lead singers -- that are at the heart of this project. “Coming Home” is just one fine example presented on this album.
