Bluegrass Students Highlight Song of the Mountains Nov. 1st

East Tennessee State University Bluegrass Pride BandMarion, VA -- Two top notch Universities will send their best bluegrass students to perform on the nationally syndicated public television concert series Song of the Mountains on Saturday, November 1st at the Lincoln Theatre in Marion, Virginia. From Kentucky, Morehead State University’s Mountain Music Ambassadors under the direction of Raymond McLain will perform on the November 1st concert taping as will the East Tennessee State University’s Bluegrass Pride Band under the direction of Dan Boner.

ETSU Bluegrass to Present Carter Family Fold Performance

ETSU Bluegrass BandBands with the ETSU Bluegrass and Country Music Program have performed at the Fold since the beginning of the program at ETSU in 1982. Daniel Boner and Roy Andrade now serve as the program’s directors. The ETSU program has grown so popular that students travel from all over the world to study there. There are now nearly twenty different bands maintained by the program. ETSU’s bands have performed in Japan, Belgium, and Russia. Some of the finest students the Bluegrass and Country Music Program has to offer will be performing with the ETSU Bluegrass Band as well as several of the program’s professors. Saturday, February 8th, 2014, at 7:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert by the ETSU Bluegrass Band. Admission to the concert is $8 for adults, $1 for children 6 to 11, under age 6 free.

ACMA Presents the 18th Annual Leon Kiser Concert February 22nd

Leon KiserBristol, TN/VA -- The Appalachian Cultural Music Association will present the 18th Annual Leon Kiser Memorial-Tribute Concert on Saturday, February 22nd at the Foundation Event Facility in Bristol, Tennessee. Proceeds from the concert go to two scholarships at East Tennessee State University for their bluegrass, old time and country music program. The scholarships are the Benny Sims Scholarship and the ACMA Leon Kiser Memorial Scholarship. The concert will feature bluegrass, old-time, gospel and country bands performing.
