Hit Songwriter Billy Droze Releases Rural Rhythm Single

Becky Buller Claims Three International Bluegrass Music Awards

Becky BullerBecky Buller claimed three International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Awards on Thursday, October 1st during the association's annual conference held in Raleigh, North Carolina. During the Special Awards luncheon, Buller was named the IBMA's Songwriter of the Year. Later that evening, Buller was awarded Emerging Artist of the Year and also Recorded Event of the Year for "Southern Flavor," a special performance with Bill Monroe's former Blue Grass Boys, Michael Feagan, Peter Rowan, Buddy Spicher, Ernie Sykes, Roland White, and Blake Williams and written by Monroe, DeWayne Mize and Guy Stevenson. Although Buller is a previous winner of an IBMA Award through her work with the Daughter of Bluegrass, these are her first IBMA accolades as a solo artist.

International Songwriting Comp Announces 2014 Judges

International Songwriting CompetitionThe International Songwriting Competition (ISC) announced its judging panel for the 2014 competition which is now accepting entries. This year, ISC has expanded on the participation of music industry executives, offering the opportunity for artists to have their music heard by the highest level of decision-makers in the music business. Judges include Presidents and CEOs from Republic, Atlantic, Warner Bros., Elektra, Columbia, Virgin, Sony Music Latin, Mercury, Wind-Up, Tommy Boy, Alligator, S-Curve, Blind Pig, and Concord Music Group.

Rhonda Vincent Writes Outer Banks Bluegrass Festival Theme Song

Rhonda VincentRoanoke Island, NC -- Rhonda Vincent has written, Bluegrass Island, as a theme song for the 3rd Annual Outer Banks Bluegrass Festival, sponsored by PNC Bank and Bollie Lee Jarratt Jr. CPA. The song, written especially for the event, is a tribute to the distinct entities that have garnered the OBX Bluegrass Festival national recognition, including the Island venue and BoomGrass fireworks show.

Larry Cordle to be Inducted to Kentucky Music Hall of Fame

Larry CordleOne of bluegrass music's favorite songwriters and performers, Larry Cordle, is scheduled to be inducted into the 2015 Kentucky Music Hall of Fame Class. Born and raised on a small family farm in eastern Kentucky, Larry has written for a wide variety of artists from country to bluegrass and most styles in between. His song, "Murder on Music Row" won the CMA Song of the Year in 2000 and was recorded by Country music's George Strait. Known in bluegrass circles with his band Lonesome Standard Time, the Grammy nominated group has performed for almost a quarter century. His latest album, Pud Marcum's Hangin' has received rave reviews.

John Hartford Memorial Festival Songwriting Contest Winners

Jeff DaughertyThe John Hartford Memorial Festival has announced the winners of their 2nd Annual John Hartford Songwriting Contest. The top three winners will receive two passes to the festival and perform their original song on the main stage on Friday, May 30. “These songs were all very well crafted and extremely difficult to score,” said Ernie Hill, contest organizer. “We are ecstatic to see the influence that John Hartford has had in every one of these fine songs. I've scored many songwriting contests over the years. Our scorers for this year’s contest agreed that the submissions were all very good in creativity and melodic quality.”

MerleFest Congratulates 2014 Chris Austin Songwriter Winners

Chris Austin Songwriters Judges and WinnersWilkesboro, NC -- MerleFest 2014 congratulates the winners of the 22nd Annual Chris Austin Songwriting Contest. Writers of the following twelve songs were selected from 567 entries and competed on the Austin Stage at MerleFest on Friday, April 25. MerleFest performer Keller Williams served as emcee for the contest. Distinguished songwriters Darrell Scott, Charles Humphrey III (Steep Canyon Rangers) and Niall Toner served as this year’s onsite judges that determine this year’s winners.

Songwriter Irene Kelley Releases Bluegrass Collection

Pennsylvania CoalVeteran Nashville songwriter and small town Pennsylvania native, Irene Kelley, will release her first new collection of original songs in more than 10 years on February 11, 2014. The new bluegrass full-length album -- Pennsylvania Coal (Patio Records) -- is a tribute to her coal-mining grandfather and a recording Irene has had on her bucket-list for some time. Produced by Grammy Award-winner Mark Fain, the album features many contemporary roots and bluegrass music giants such as Carl Jackson, Rhonda Vincent, Claire Lynch, Dale Ann Bradley, Darren Vincent, Stuart Duncan, Bryan Sutton, Trisha Yearwood and others.
