Porchlight Sessions World Premiere Held at FreshGrass Festival Friday

Bluegrass Music LegendsFriday, the world premiere of Porchlight Sessions, a documentary that filmmaker Anna Schwaber calls “Bluegrass 101, took place at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art’s(MASS MoCA) FreshGrass bluegrass music festival. The second annual FreshGrass festival turned the whole museum into nothing short of a bluegrass music amusement park.

Pioneers of Bluegrass MusicThe brainstorm of James Reams and his partner, Tina Aridas, the DVD documentary Making History with Pioneers of Bluegrass got started back in 2002 at the grand opening of the International Bluegrass Music Museum. This labor of love was shot with minimal equipment on tour buses, backstage before performances, and even on front porches. The plan was to make the viewer feel like they are sitting right there with these bluegrass greats just shooting the breeze.

Documentary on Country Music Birthplace at Musical Fundraiser on September 30th in Bristol

Echoes of the Blue RidgeBristol, TN/VA- The Appalachian Cultural Music Association (ACMA) will release a documentary, Echoes of The Blue Ridge, to the public on Sunday, September 30th at 3:00 pm at the ACMA Pickin’ Porch located on the upper level of the Bristol Mall in Bristol, Virginia. There will be plenty of live bluegrass and old time music at the event to celebrate the project’s release. The documentary is of the music and the Blue Ridge Mountain region of Appalachia.

 Lessons From TraditionThis Tuesday, Sept. 11, Smithsonian Folkways Recordings releases Stephen Wade’s Banjo Diary: Lessons from Tradition. Its release coincides with the publication of his new book, The Beautiful Music All Around Us: Field Recordings and the American Experience (University of Illinois Press).

The Porchlight Sessions Bluegrass Approaching Funding Target

Bluegrass Music LegendsThe Porchlight Sessions feature-length Bluegrass music documentary directed by Anna Schwaber, has almost reached its crowd-source funding target of $60,000. The team behind the ground-breaking documentary have until the end of April to raise the remaining few thousand dollars from supporters pledging on funding site Kickstarter.
