John McEuen Celebrates 70th Birthday with a Few Hundred Friends

John McEuen 70th BirthdayJohn McEuen says he wanted to have a birthday party at a place where he didn’t have to clean up after it was over, so he brought his gang of musician friends together for a birthday jam on the highly popular show, “Music City Roots,” at The Factory in Franklin. The String Wizard was joined onstage by country and bluegrass icons Jesse McReynolds, Roland White, Jeff Hanna, David Amram, Rhonda Vincent, Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush, Les Thompson, John Cable, Matt Cartsonis, Bernie Leadon and John Carter Cash.

Bluegrass Legend Jesse McReynolds Celebrates His 85th Birthday

Jesse McReynoldsNashville, TN -- “I’m here as a friend and a fan,” Grand Ole Opry star Jan Howard declared to a crowd of Jesse McReynolds’ closest friends and family on July 13th, 2014, in Gallatin, Tennessee. It was a lively gathering on a sunny Sunday at Jesse’s farm, the Pick Inn, to celebrate his 85th birthday and there was no shortage of tributes from Jesse’s colleagues, neighbors and friends. Nine of Nashville’s finest, Homer Bradley (the unofficial “Mayor of Cairo”), WSM announcer Eddie Stubbs, fiddle-player Jim Buchanan, Opry stars Jeannie Seely and Jan Howard, Carl Jackson, banjo-player Mike Scott, Larry Stephenson and Sam Bush, roasted McReynolds who was praised for his sense of humor, his mentorship of other artists, his contributions to bluegrass music and, most of all, his sincere and kind personality. “He was just what I wanted him to be,” said Stubbs of his first meeting with Jesse, “we learned so much just by observing these people…they set the bar really high.” Jeannie Seely echoed that sentiment telling the party, “he always kicks things up just a little notch.”

The success of their 60’s radio shows prompted Martha White Flour to bring them to Nashville to star on their early morning show on WSM. In 1964 a life time dream came true for Jim & Jesse when they became regular members of the Grand Ole Opry®.

Bobby Osborne to Cover for Jesse McReynolds at Eureke Springs Festival

Bobby OsborneThe Eureka Springs Bluegrass Festival has announced a change in the headline act for the Auditorium show on Saturday, August 17th, 2013. Due to serious health issues, Jesse McReynolds will be unable to perform. But the show must go on and another Bluegrass legend, Bobby Osborne, will be filling McReynolds' place for the festival. Osborne and his band, the Rocky Top X-press, will now be performing as part of the 2½ hour show.

2012 Grey Fox Bluegrass Music Festival Lineup Announced

Gray FoxOnce again, Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, on the Walsh Farm in Oak Hill, NY, has outdone itself, having assembled an all-star lineup that underscores the event's reputation as a "Who's Who of Bluegrass" that draws thousands of fans from all parts of the globe. Two bluegrass icons who have each been named National Heritage Fellows and Grand Old Opry members will perform at this year's festival: Del McCoury, who is a perennial favorite at Grey Fox; and Jesse McReynolds (aka the Ironman of Bluegrass Mandolin) who began his professional career in 1947. Jesse McReynolds Greatful DeadThe music made famous by the legendary Grateful Dead will be heard at the World Famous Station Inn on Thursday, August 4th. Grand Ole Opry star and bluegrass luminary Jesse McReynolds will mark the Nashville debut of music from his newest album Songs of the Grateful Dead: A Tribute to Jerry Garcia & Robert Hunter in a special concert. This is Jesse's most ambitious project to date combining the unique music of the iconic rock band with his signature bluegrass style. Grateful Dead historian Dennis McNally says, "If Jerry [Garcia] had managed to live to 80 and been from the South, he'd sound like Jesse McReynolds. It's one of the great American voices singing great American songs."
