Send them your best John Hartford inspired song and win tickets, trophies, digital publication and video exposure on their dynamic website, and participate in their top 7 Songwriter’s Showcase on the Main Stage! Don’t drag your pen and pick on this contest. They are only accepting the first 25 entries.

That's the theme for the 5th Annual John Hartford Memorial Festival, to be held May 28-30, 2015, at the Bill Monroe Music Park and Campground, Bean Blossom, IN. With a lineup that includes Hot Rize with Red Knuckles and the Trailblazers, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Split Lip Rayfield, Hackensaw Boys, The Larry Keel Experience, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, Jamie Hartford and Friends, Bawn in the Mash, and many more to be announced, it really does get better and better and better.

Jeff DaughertyThe John Hartford Memorial Festival has announced the winners of their 2nd Annual John Hartford Songwriting Contest. The top three winners will receive two passes to the festival and perform their original song on the main stage on Friday, May 30. “These songs were all very well crafted and extremely difficult to score,” said Ernie Hill, contest organizer. “We are ecstatic to see the influence that John Hartford has had in every one of these fine songs. I've scored many songwriting contests over the years. Our scorers for this year’s contest agreed that the submissions were all very good in creativity and melodic quality.”

Joining the festival line-up this year will be Great American Taxi, The Freight Hoppers, Sam Grisman (performing with Colin O’Brien), Branded Bluegrass, Chicago Farmer, Jalan Crossland, o Bardo e o Banjo, Woodstove Flapjacks, John Till, Indiana Boys, and The Leadfoot Band.

Peter RowanCheers erupted from the crowd as the first line up announcement was made for the 4th Annual John Hartford Memorial Festival (JHMF), during the morning Chompdown at their annual Fall Festival & Pickin’ Party that recently occurred. For those who may not know, Chompdown is a pot luck-style gathering where volunteers cook up fresh food and goodies for all to enjoy, adding a community feel to a public event.

3rd John Hartford Memorial Festival Brings Life to an American Music Icon

John Hartford Memorial Festival 2013Preparations are underway for the 3rd Annual John Hartford Memorial Festival being held in the hills of southern Indiana at the Official Bean Blossom & Bill Monroe Music Park in beautiful Brown County, May 30–June 1. This is the third of what the festival’s creator, John Hotze, and co-promoter, Dan Dillman, hope to see as an event to preserve the legacy and music of the late John Hartford, one of America’s most beloved songwriter/performers and musicians.
