Tim Stafford Receives 2015 National Alumni Association Award

Tim StaffordJohnson City, TN -- The East Tennessee State University National Alumni Association presented its 2015 Alumni Awards Friday, May 8, during the association’s Awards Banquet and Annual Meeting, which is held as part of the university’s spring commencement weekend. Bluegrass artist and songwriter, Tim Stafford received Distinguished Alumnus in the Arts recognition.

ETSU Bluegrass to Present Carter Family Fold Performance

ETSU Bluegrass BandBands with the ETSU Bluegrass and Country Music Program have performed at the Fold since the beginning of the program at ETSU in 1982. Daniel Boner and Roy Andrade now serve as the program’s directors. The ETSU program has grown so popular that students travel from all over the world to study there. There are now nearly twenty different bands maintained by the program. ETSU’s bands have performed in Japan, Belgium, and Russia. Some of the finest students the Bluegrass and Country Music Program has to offer will be performing with the ETSU Bluegrass Band as well as several of the program’s professors. Saturday, February 8th, 2014, at 7:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert by the ETSU Bluegrass Band. Admission to the concert is $8 for adults, $1 for children 6 to 11, under age 6 free.

Historic Johnson City Sessions Due in Early October

The Johnson City SessionsBristol, TN/VA -- Last April, Cybergrass reported on the John City Sessions project. The project is a young sibling of sorts to the Birthplace of Country Music's The Bristol Sessions. The Birthplace of Country Music (BCM) and East Tennessee State University (ETSU) are working together for the Johnson City Sessions Weekend to be held October 18-20. Bear Family Records is presenting Johnson City Sessions: Can You Sing Or Play Old-Time Music? due that October weekend.

The Johnson City SessionsBristol, TN/VA -- On Friday, April 5, Downtown Johnson City, Tennessee was abuzz with sounds and sights of the past. Local residents, media and organizations gathered to celebrate the Birthplace of Country Music®’s musical sibling: the 1928 Johnson City Sessions. BCM President John Rainero spoke to the Sessions' impact--one still being felt as partnerships are formed today.
