Record Store Day Celebrates 10 Years Today!

Record Store Day 2017Saturday, April 22nd marks the 10th Anniversary of Record Store Day, our now annual hootenanny dedicated to record culture, record lovers, record makers and most of all, the amazing record stores that make it all possible. That's a whole decade’s worth of a unique annual event whose purpose has been to bring folks together in support of those essential elements that make independent record stores real and thriving epicenters of their communities.

Record Store Day with Historic Rounder J.D. Crowe & The New South Reissue

J.D. Crowe & The New SouthHeralded as the album to have by bluegrass fans, J.D. Crowe & The New South was released on Rounder Records. The historic album, often referred to by its catalog number, Rounder 0044 has become the coveted album to own. For Record Store Day 2016, Rounder is releasing J.D. Crowe & The New South in LP format in a limited number. First released in 1975 and later on CD in 1992, this 40th Anniversary J. D. Crowe and The New South will once again become one of the most desired albums in bluegrass. This reissue also includes the original “flipping the bird" album cover photo (unseen since ’75.) Today is Record Store Day 2016 so get one of these classics while you can. They're in limited supply.

The long-awaited, 40th anniversary vinyl reissue of one of the most heralded albums in bluegrass history: J.D. Crowe & The New South will be released exclusively for Record Store Day! J. D. Crowe & The New South is an album by American banjo player J. D. Crowe and The New South, released in 1975. It was reissued on CD in 1992.

Each year, artists and lables release their vinyl offerings for this special day. The offerings include almost every genre and style and there's always something for bluegrass music fans too.

Dolly Parton to Celebrate Record Store Day with Blue Smoke

Blue SmokeNew York, NY -- Sony Masterworks and internationally-renowned superstar Dolly Parton celebrate Record Store Day on Saturday, April 19, with the release of a limited 7-inch vinyl. The blue vinyl features two tracks from Parton’s upcoming album Blue Smoke - “Blue Smoke” and “Home.” Blue Smoke will be released by Sony Masterworks and Dolly Records on May 13, 2014. It is available for pre-order now. The album includes 12 bluegrass and country songs including covers of Bob Dylan and Bon Jovi classics, and duets with Willie Nelson and Kenny Rogers. Blue Smoke marks the first release of new music from Parton since 2011.

Vinyl Revival Continues As LP Sales Reach Highest Level In More Than A Decade

Record BuyersAnnual sales of vinyl LPs have crossed the half a million mark for the first time in more than a decade, revealed a BPI analysis of Official Charts Company data released today. Releases from Daft Punk, Arctic Monkeys and David Bowie have helped push the popularity of the format to renewed heights this year. Almost 550,000 LPs have been snapped up by music fans so far in 2013, already giving vinyl its most successful year since 2003.
