Alison Krauss and Union Station Add to their Grammy Collections

Alison KraussThis year's Grammy® Awards program was an emotional one with the death of Whitney Houston just as the celebration was unfolding. This year, however, was also exciting as we saw some of our favorites being honored by the Recording Academy. Alison Krauss' latest project Paper Airplane captured Best Bluegrass Album and the album also captured the Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical award. This latest accomplishment brings the band's total Grammy® award count to 13 and is the 27th personal win for Alison Krauss.

2012 SPBGMA National Bluegrass Music Award Winners

Jamie DaileyThe Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (SPBGMA) held their 29th National Convention and the 38th Anniversary Bluegrass Music Awards February 2-5, 2012. The four-day event was held at the Sheraton Music City Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. The awards were posted by SPBGMA yesterday evening. The awards are the big item of the convention and we have the winners listed below. Jamie Dailey, pictured, took home the 2012 Entertainer of the Year honors.

2012 SPBGMA Convention, National Awards Nominations Announced

2012 SPBGMS Awards + ConventionThe Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (SPBGMA) will hold their 239th National Convention and the 38th Anniversary Bluegrass Music Awards February 2-5, 2012. The four-day event will be held at the Sheraton Music City Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee, just south of Opryland USA. The convention and awards show will also feature a banjo workshop and a national promoters meeting.

San Francisco Arts Commission Requests Grammys Bring Back 31 Categories

San Francisco Arts CommissionSan Francisco, CA -- On Monday, November 7th, 2011 at the San Francisco Executive Arts Commission Meeting the resolution, spearheaded by Commissioner John Calloway was proposed to the board commissioners asking them to issue a formal request to the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences to immediately reinstate the 31 categories of music genres that were dropped from GRAMMY consideration on April 6, 2011. Members of the community who attended and spoke were musician and previous NARAS governor Sandy Cressman, Recording Artist and 2x GRAMMY Nominee Mark Levine, KPFA Radio Producer Clayton Leander and producer and writer Stephanie Dalton, who presented the public petition that now has over 5,400 signatures.
