Two Groups Tie for Best at Northern California Bluegrass Awards

Bean Creek Bluegrass BandThe deeply traditional Bean Creek (Santa Cruz) and the eclectic Snap Jackson & The Knock On Wood Players (Stockton) tied for Best Bluegrass Band at the Northern California Bluegrass Awards held in Redwood City on January 26, 2013. The Awards were part of the Northern California Bluegrass Society’s Bluegrass On Broadway Festival.

SPBGMA Bluegrass Music Nominations and Recent Winners Announced

Rhonda VincentRhonda Vincent And the Rage were happily surprised to hear that they received a dozen nominations for the The Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (SPBGMA) Awards scheduled to take place next month in Nashville. The Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (SPBGMA) is a regular favorite for bluegrass fans and artists. The Midwest Convention and Awards are the last SPBGMA event prior to the National Convention which will be held in Nashville, Tennessee from January 31st through February 3, 2013. The winners of the Midweest Awards are listed below.

Americana Honors and Awards to Air on AXS TV Dec 16

Americana Music Festival 2012Nashville, TN -- AXS TV will broadcast the Americana Honors & Awards program, a two-hour special dedicated to celebrating roots music, at 8:00PM ET / 5:00PM on Sunday December 16. The program will be rebroadcast later in the evening at 12:20AM ET / 9:20 PM PT.

Banjos and Grammys Make For a Good Time

Mumford & Sons: BabelSpring Valley, CA -- The 2013 Grammy Award Nominations were announced on Wednesday, December 5th, 2012 and proves the fact that the banjo has gone mainstream. Deering Artists were nominated in 13 different categories - including such major categories as Album of the Year and Best Rock Song. Deering Banjo Artists nominated were Mumford and Sons, Taylor Swift, The Avett Brothers, Eric Church, Dierks Bentley, The Carolina Chocolate Drops, Noam Pikelny, The Steep Canyon Rangers, and Stephen Wade.

28th Annual Eastern Canada Bluegrass Music Award Winners Announced

Eastern Canada Bluegrass Music AwardsThe 28th Annual Eastern Canada Bluegrass Music Awards show was held in Truro on October 20th with a wonderful lineup of talent. The show was a bit different this year as there were only 4 groups in the first half, with all the awards presented during this time, The Groups were Next Of Kin, Mountain River, Eight Wheel Drive and Shadow River, with the host being Bill Graves, this segment was followed by an intermission. Cybergrass announced the program earlier in October.

Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver Nominated for Two ICM Awards

Doyle Lawson & QuicksilverNashville, TN -- Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver will perform LIVE at the 18th Annual Inspirational Country Music (ICM) Awards at Nashville's acclaimed Schermerhorn Symphony Center on Thursday, October 18, 2012. The Final Five Nominees for the ICM Awards were announced on August 31, and Lawson and his band garnered awards nominations in two categories: (1) Inspirational Bluegrass Artist and (2) Vocal Group or Band of the Year.

23rd International Bluegrass Music Awards and Honors

The Gibson BrothersThe Gibson Brothers took home the “Entertainer of the Year” Award at the 23rd annual International Bluegrass Music Awards Thursday night, September 27, 2012 at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. Brothers Eric and Leigh Gibson, along with their band (Mike Barber, Clayton Campbell and Joe Walsh) also picked up an award for “Gospel Recorded Performance of the Year” for “Singing As We Rise.”

Walnut Valley FestivalThe Walnut Valley Festival is over. The flags and tents are coming down. The various instrument competitions are finally over and the winners have been announced. Walnut Valley Festival offers attendees great entertainment and artists but, its probably the most famous for its various national and international instrument championships. Many of those competitions focus on the very instruments found in bluegrass music. Banjo, Flat Pick Guitar, Mandolin, Old-Time Fiddle and more attract musicians from around the globe to compete for the various awards.
