Final Nominees For IBMA Awards to be Announced at Aug 13

IBMA Awards LogoNashville, TN -- Bluegrass fans all over the globe can watch live as the final nominees for the 25th Annual International Bluegrass Music Awards are announced on Wednesday, August 13 at 4:45 pm Central/5:45 pm Eastern; for the fourth year in a row, Music City Roots (MCR) will broadcast the nomination press conference live at, from Liberty Hall in The Factory at Franklin (230 Franklin Road) in Franklin, Tennessee.

New Grammy Category for Americana Roots Music

Grammy AwardThe Americana Music Association applauds the Recording Academy® for adding a new category - Best American Roots Music Performance, an artist’s award - to the American Roots Music Field for the 2015 GRAMMY® Awards. The new category will give Americana, and other roots music artists, a home for the recognition of their work. The new category compliments previously created categories including Best American Roots Music Song, Best Americana Album, Best Bluegrass Album, Best Blues Album, Best Folk Album and Best Regional Roots Album.

John Hartford Memorial Festival Songwriting Contest Winners

Jeff DaughertyThe John Hartford Memorial Festival has announced the winners of their 2nd Annual John Hartford Songwriting Contest. The top three winners will receive two passes to the festival and perform their original song on the main stage on Friday, May 30. “These songs were all very well crafted and extremely difficult to score,” said Ernie Hill, contest organizer. “We are ecstatic to see the influence that John Hartford has had in every one of these fine songs. I've scored many songwriting contests over the years. Our scorers for this year’s contest agreed that the submissions were all very good in creativity and melodic quality.”

North Carolina Heritage Award Performances Set for May 20

Bobby Hicks by Pat FranklinFive North Carolinians from diverse artistic traditions will be awarded the North Carolina Heritage Award on Tuesday, May 20 at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts in Raleigh. Recipients include: Bobby Hicks, a 10-time Grammy award-winning bluegrass fiddler; Susan Leveille, a Jackson County hand weaver; Sid Luck, a fifth-generation potter from Seagrove; Bill Myers, whose band The Monitors has played rhythm and blues and jazz music for more than 50 years; and Arnold Richardson, a Haliwa-Saponi artist who has influenced the revitalization of North Carolina Indian arts. These five accomplished artists will be honored on Tuesday, May 20 in Raleigh with a North Carolina Heritage Award.

MerleFest Congratulates 2014 Chris Austin Songwriter Winners

Chris Austin Songwriters Judges and WinnersWilkesboro, NC -- MerleFest 2014 congratulates the winners of the 22nd Annual Chris Austin Songwriting Contest. Writers of the following twelve songs were selected from 567 entries and competed on the Austin Stage at MerleFest on Friday, April 25. MerleFest performer Keller Williams served as emcee for the contest. Distinguished songwriters Darrell Scott, Charles Humphrey III (Steep Canyon Rangers) and Niall Toner served as this year’s onsite judges that determine this year’s winners.

2014 FreshGrass Award Open for Submissions

The Queen of Bluegrass, Rhonda Vincent was inducted into the SPBGMA Preservation Hall of Greats durings Sunday's 40th Annual Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (SPBGMA) Bluegrass Music Awards ceremony. Vincent also captured Instrumental Group of the Year with her band, The Rage and the coveted Entertainer of the Year award.

35th Annual Central Canadian Bluegrass Awards Nominees Announced

The nominations have been announced for the 35th Annual Central Canadian Bluegrass Awards which will take place Saturday, November 23rd at the Deerhurst Resort in Muskoka, Ontario.
