PBS Americana Music Weekend Kicks Off

Richard ThompsonNashville, TN -- The 2012 Americana Music Honors & Awards program was honored last night with a regional Emmy Award nomination in the Special Event Program category by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The critically acclaimed Americana Honors & Awards show was filmed live at the historic Ryman Auditorium on September 12, 2012. This unique night of music and celebration honored multiple generations of artists ranging from legends such as Booker T. Jones, Bonnie Raitt, Richard Thompson and Guy Clark, favorites Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, and up-and-comers Alabama Shakes, Jason Isbell and The Civil Wars.

Nashville, TN -- The Steep Canyon Rangers, a favorite of bluegrass fans, stopped off in Nashville on their way to host the IBMA Awards show this year. Larry Campbell, producer of the Rangers’ new release, Tell the Ones I Love, was accepting his own award, and they helped to celebrate at the Midnight Windup jam held after the Americana Music Associations Honors and Awards Show, hosted by Jim Lauderdale.

Americana Music Association Annual Event Makes Local and Global Impact

Americana Music AssociationWith events ranging from intimate showcases to insightful panels to a sold-out, nationally broadcast awards show, the Americana Music Association's annual Festival, Conference and Honors & Awards drew thousands to Nashville to explore the past, present and future of roots music. Highlights included: The sold-out Honors & Awards show at Nashville's famed Ryman Auditorium, which was broadcast live on AXS TV, SiriusXM satellite radio, WSM-AM 650 and streamed on NPR.org, and will be rebroadcast in an edited form later this season as part of PBS' "ACL Presents" series. The Festival's music programming featured more than 140 official events and showcases attracting an aggregate 20,000 attendees over the fest's five-day span.

The new festival will complement the Association's week-long festival and conference, now in its 14th year, held in the Fall (Sept. 18-22).

The ceremony featured performances by now nominated artists Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale, T Bone Burnett with Lisa Marie Presley, Elizabeth Cook and The Milk Carton Kids. The program was broadcast live on AXS TV, who will present a special encore presentation of the event later this evening at 9PM ET/6PM PT.
