Bluegrass Foundation Grant Recipient Walker Creek Music Camp

Walker Creek Music CamEvery month we plan to tell you about one of the deserving programs or projects funded by Foundation for Bluegrass Music grants, starting with the Walker Creek Music Camp held October 6-9, 2016 in rural Marin County, California. Classes for aspiring musicians of all ages at Walker Creek Ranch, located an hour north of the San Francisco Bay area, included instruction in bluegrass and old-time fiddle, mandolin, banjo, guitar, vocals, bass, Dobro, beginning jam sessions, and the "Music and More" (M&M) program for children. Electives included everything from flatfoot dancing to songwriting.

Ace Hotel & Martin Guitars New York, NY -- Ace Hotel and Martin Guitar have been friends and partners for a half-decade now, cultivating a collaboration that's deeply rooted in a shared passion for music and the desire to support those who make it. In 2016, Martin and Ace Hotel will evolve their partnership from in-room strumming and 5 at 5 into a two-part initiative that centers around public outreach and an openhanded support towards musicians.

Birthplace of Country Music Museum Receives Preservation Grant

Birthplace of Country Music MuseumBristol, TN/VA -- The Birthplace of Country Music Museum has received a $6,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities Preservation Assistance Grant. The grant will support a preservation needs assessment by preservation professionals from the Northeast Document Conservation Center.

National Endowment for the Arts Award Helps Blue Ridge Music Center

Blue Ridge Music CenterWinston-Salem, NC -- The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation is honored to be named a grant recipient by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). Today, the NEA announced awards totaling more than $27.6 million in its first funding round of fiscal year 2016, including an Art Works award of $15,000 to the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation to support summer music programming at the Blue Ridge Music Center.

Birthplace of Country Music Receives Virginia Tourism Corporation Grant

Birthplace of Country MusicBristol, TN/VA -- Governor Terry McAuliffe announced that the Birthplace of Country Music (BCM) received $10,000 from the Virginia Tourism Corporation Marketing Leverage Program grant fund. In total VTC awarded more than $796,000 for 45 tourism marketing projects across the state to help increase visitation and revenue for Virginia’s localities through tourism.

Bank of Tennessee Gifts $100,000 to Birthplace of Country Music Museum

BCM Receives GiftBristol, VA/TN -- A press conference was held Tuesday, March 18, 2014, in the atrium of the Birthplace of Country Music® Museum (BCM) to announce a $100,000 gift by Bank of Tennessee to the museum. Bank of Tennessee CEO, Roy Harmon, and Bank of Tennessee Market President, David Wagner, presented the check to BCM Executive Director, Leah Ross, during the conference.

Country Music Hall of Fame Awarded NEH Grant to Digitize Country Music Artifacts

Country Music Hall of Fame & MuseumNashville, TN -- The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum has received a $280,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, museum officials announced today. The grant will fund the digitization of rare and fragile components of the museum's collection. The grant's title is Preservation and Access: Digitizing Rare and Fragile Components of the Country Music.

The Crooked Road Receives D’Addario Foundation Grant for Traditional Music Education

The Crooked Road D'Addario FoundationAbingdon, VA -- The D’Addario Foundation recently announced that The Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail will receive a $2,000 grant to support traditional music education in Southwest Virginia. The Crooked Road’s Traditional Music Education Program Phase 2, builds upon findings from the program rollout—generating more after-school programs, school assembly programs, and performance opportunities for the region’s youth while strengthening the educational foundation through curricular material distribution, teacher training workshops, and a teacher re-certification course serving a 19-county region of rural Southwest Virginia. The grant will assist with instructor contracts for four new after-school Crooked Road/JAM traditional music programs: FloydJAMS, WiseJAMS – Coeburn/St. Paul, WiseJAMS – Big Stone Gap/Appalachia , and Dickenson County JAMS.
