Acoustic Cruise to Benefit ACMA

Acoustic Cruise 2014Bristol, TN/VA -- The Acoustic Cruise will be filled with bluegrass, comedy and gospel music and will depart from Charleston, South Carolina in November 5th on Carnival Cruise Lines. This is a five day cruise traveling to the Bahamas and will be hosted by Song of the Mountains Host Tim White and his band the VW Boys. White also hosts the syndicated radio show the Tim White Bluegrass Show each week as well. “We will have lots of fun and have a tremendous lineup of artists to provide great music and comedy”, says White.

Mountain Music Museum to Unveil Papa Joe Smiddy Exhibit

Pappa Joe SmiddyBristol, TN/VA -- The Appalachian Cultural Music Association’s Mountain Music Museum invites the public and the media to take part in the unveiling of the “Papa Joe Smiddy Exhibit” at the museum located at 626 State Street in Bristol, TN-VA. The unveiling will take place at 3:00 pm on Monday, March 17th and ninety-three year old Papa Joe Smiddy will be at the unveiling ceremony.

Blue Ridge Acoustic Uprising April 11th & 12th

Blue Ridge Acoustic UprisingThe 2nd Annual Blue Ridge Acoustic Uprising will be held April 11th and 12th at the Wytheville Meeting Center in Wytheville, VA. Thirty-three bluegrass, old time and Americana bands will be showcasing their talents on stage and there is a wide array of other events scheduled at the gathering. The Appalachian Cultural Music which is a non-profit organization presents the Blue Ridge Acoustic Uprising each year at the Wytheville Meeting Center which is adjacent to Wytheville Community College.

Blue Ridge Acoustic UprisingWytheville, VA- The Appalachian Cultural Music Association's "Blue Ridge Acoustic Uprising" held in Wytheville, VA on April 12th and 13th was a huge success, especially for the musicians and the youth musicians who participated in the event. "This was our first year for our event and we are very pleased and already working on next year's gathering at the Wytheville Meeting Center.” states Johnny Williams, a Danville, VA musician and chairman for the event. Williams also says, "The Blue Ridge Acoustic Uprising featured over 30 bands from the southern Appalachian Region and was a showcase of the bluegrass, old time and Americana music that was born in this region. The venue, The Meeting Center in Wytheville, is amazing and such a great place to hold the event”.

Proceeds from this event go to fund the “Benny Sims and ACMA’s Leon Kiser Scholarships at ETSU.

Appalachian Cultural Music Association Pickin’ Porch Re-opens in Bristol

The Pickin' Porch ShowBristol, TN/VA -- The Appalachian Cultural Music Association’s Pickin’ Porch will re-open on a new night and at a new location starting this coming Monday evening January 14th at 7:00 pm. The ACMA Pickin’ Porch will present free concerts to the public at 620 State Street in downtown Bristol every Monday evening in the future as well.

Larry Sparks on Appalachian Cultural Music Alliance Pickin’ Porch

Larry SparksThe legendary Larry Sparks and the Lonesome Ramblers will appear on the Appalachian Cultural Music Alliance’s Pickin’ Porch on Saturday, November 17th at 7:00 pm in Bristol, VA. Bluegrass music artist Larry Sparks is featured as the cover story this month in Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine with an article written by Bristol’s Tom Netherland. “The article boasts on Larry Sparks’ 50th anniversary coming up in 2013 and we are so proud to have this renowned bluegrass legend coming to appear on our Pickin’ Porch stage,” says ACMA president John Necessary.
