Acclaimed Mountain Stage Comes to Barter Theatre August 16

Mountain StageAbingdon, VA -- Mountain Stage comes to Barter Theatre for an exciting one night only performance and recording! Gretchen Peters, JD Souther, Nellie McKay, The Whiskey Gentry, and Wayne Henderson fill the stage for two hours of great country and Americana music. Mountain Stage is recording the concert live, and it will be broadcast to over 150 NPR stations nationally. Barter Theatre makes the perfect stage for this showcase of seasoned legends and emerging stars.

Carter Fold Performances of “Keep On The Sunny Side”

Eugene Wolf portrays A.P. Carter in a performance of “Keep on the Sunny Side” Hiltons, VA -- During the last week in May and the first week in June, 2015, the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, and Abingdon’s Barter Theatre will present six performances of the play Keep on the Sunny Side at the Carter Family Fold. Performance dates and times are: Thursday, May 28, 7:30 PM/ Friday, May 29, 7:30 PM/ Sunday, May 31, 7:00 PM/ Thursday, June 4, 7:30 PM/ Friday, June 5, 7:30 PM, and Sunday, June 7, 7:00 PM. Tickets to Keep on the Sunny Side at the Fold are $20 and are available for advance purchase through the Barter Theatre box office at 276-628-3991 or on their website at bartertheatre.com. Tickets will also be available at the door for each show. Before traveling long distances, it would be best to check with Barter’s box office regarding ticket availability.

Special Carter Fold Presentation with Barter Theatre - "Ring Of Fire"

Ring Of FireWednesday, August 27th, 2014, at 7:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will partner with Barter Theatre to present Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash. Admission to the show is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors over 65, and $12 for children under 16. Tickets may be purchased in advance through Barter Theatre or at the door the night of the show. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Study Reveals Barter Theatre¹s $34-Million Annual Economic Impact

Barter TheatreAbingdon, VA – Barter Theatre has released the results of a major study measuring the theatre’s impact on the local economy. The independent study determined that Barter Theatre is responsible for generating $34 million in economic impact and supporting 485 jobs across the economic spectrum. Barter is a non-profit organization with an annual operating budget of just over $6 million, located in historic downtown Abingdon, Virginia.

Steep Canyon RangersAbingdon, VA -- The Town of Abingdon has partnered with Barter Theatre and Bonefire Brands to launch the kick off of the Abingdon Music Experience and a series of concerts every Saturday in January. The third concert in the January Jams series at Barter Theatre presented by Eastman Credit Union will feature the Steep Canyon Rangers with The Black Lillies opening. These two bands will perform LIVE this Saturday, January 19th on the Barter Theatre Main Stage.

11th Annual Appalachian Festival of Plays and Playwrights

Appalachian Festival of Plays and PlaywrightsAbingdon, VA -- The eleventh annual Appalachian Festival of Plays and Playwrights (AFPP) will be held July 26 – August 6, at Barter Stage II during the Virginia Highlands Festival. "Founded in 2001, the AFPP gives voice to the stories of our region, and the community is invited to take part in the development of brand new plays," said Nicholas Piper, director of the AFPP.
