Ralph Stanley II at Carter Fold May 6th

Ralph Stanley IISaturday, May 6th, 2017, at 7:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert by Ralph Stanley II. Ralph II has done annual concerts at the Fold for nearly a decade now, and the Fold is thrilled to welcome him back for this year's concert. This will mark Ralph II's eighth performance at the Fold. His father Ralph and his uncle Carter actually performed at the A.P. Carter Park when A.P. presented music programs in the early 1950s. Those shows were held just behind the Fold at the foot of Clinch Mountain in an outdoor concert area. The Stanley and Carter families have been pivotal in preserving the region's rich musical tradition and carrying the music of the mountains throughout the world.

Whitetop Mountain BandHiltons, VA -- Saturday, April 29th, 2017, at 7:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert of old time music by the Whitetop Mountain Band. Whitetop Mountain Band is a family-based band from the highest mountains of Virginia. Whitetop is an area rich in old time music tradition, and this band has deep roots in mountain music. The band's members have worked tirelessly to preserve the region's style of old time fiddling and banjo picking and are legendary musicians and teachers of the style.

J.P. Mathes, Fiddling Leona & The Mountain Empire at Carter Fold

J.P. Mathes, Fiddling Leona & The Mountain EmpireSaturday, April 15th, 2017, at 7:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert of bluegrass music by J.P. Mathes and Fiddling Leona and their group The Mountain Empire. Also featured on the show will be students from the Hazard Community and Technical Colleges Kentucky School of Bluegrass and Traditional Music and their Program Director Dean Osborne, Jr.

Jeff Little Trio Concert at Carter Family Fold Saturday

Jeff Little TrioHiltons, VA -- Saturday, April 8th, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert by an old time band – the Jeff Little Trio. Hotshot rockabilly pianist Jeff Little comes from Boone, North Carolina, in the heart of the Blue Ridge, where he grew up surrounded by music. Jeff began to play piano at age five. His family owned a music store, and musicians of all persuasions dropped by to play a few tunes with the kid, which helps account for Jeff's mastery of a range of styles.

Larry Sigmon and Martha SpencerHiltons, VA -- Saturday, April 1st, 2017, at 7:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert of old time music by Larry Sigmon and Martha Spencer – the Unique Sound of the Mountains. If you ever saw Larry Sigmon and the Unique Sound of the Mountains, you know the sound was unlike anything you ever heard before. Over the course of more than ten albums and several years of performing, Larry Sigmon and his late partner Barbara Poole continuously brought the house down with a variety of fast-paced mountain music tunes fueled by Sigmon's high-speed claw hammer banjo picking and Poole's infectious "heartbeat" bass plucking. While there were several groups out there that could get you onto the dance floor, no old time band could wear out your clogging shoes faster than the Unique Sound of the Mountains.

This concert is part of the group's 25th anniversary tour and celebration – Tyme for 25. Playing music is the easy part," says Russell Moore with an ever-so-slightly rueful laugh looking back on more than thirty years of doing what he grew up wanting to do. "By the time we put this band together" - he's talking about IIIrd Tyme Out, his musical vehicle for over twenty-five years now - "I was realistic enough to know that bands come and go. Being able to stay together is the hurdle that everyone faces. So I didn't have a preconceived notion that someday I'd be celebrating twenty-five years with IIIrd Tyme Out - but I did feel like I would be playing music for the rest of my life."

Carter Family Fold hosts Cabin Creek Boys Saturday

Cabin Creek BoysHiltons, VA -- Saturday, February 25th, 2017, at 7:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert of old time music by the Cabin Creek Boys. The Cabin Creek Boys play old time hillbilly music from the mountains of southwest Virginia and northwest North Carolina, performing at area festivals, fiddlers' conventions, square dances, and other community events.

ETSU Bluegrass Band at Carter Family Fold Feb 18

ETSU Bluegrass BandHiltons, VA -- The Carter Family Fold will preset the East Tennessee State University (ETSU) Bluegrass Band Saturday, February 18th. Bands with the ETSU Bluegrass and Country Music Program have performed at the Fold since the beginning of the program at ETSU in 1982. Daniel Boner and Roy Andrade now serve as the program's directors. The ETSU program has grown so popular that students travel from all over the world to study there. There are now nearly twenty different bands maintained by the program. ETSU's bands have performed in Japan, Belgium, and Russia. Some of the finest students the Bluegrass and Country Music Program has to offer will be performing with the ETSU Bluegrass Band as well as some of the program's professors. The ETSU Bluegrass Band puts tremendous energy and drive into every performance.

Jeff Brown and Still Lonesome consist of Jeff Brown, Austin Brown, Kyle Murphy, Nick Goad and Mitch Walker. Jeff Brown is a name that is very well known to musicians on today's bluegrass circuit, and has been steadily gaining in popularity with fans, DJ'S and promoters alike. He began playing at the very young age of nine, and hasn't slowed down since. He and his brother formed the Richlands Bluegrass Boys, where he played alongside Blue Highway's Wayne Taylor.

Jonah Riddle & Carolina ExpressHiltons, VA -- Saturday, January 28th, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia will present a concert by Jonah Riddle and Carolina Express. Carolina Express was formed by brothers Jonah and Grayson Riddle. Jonah, age 17, has been playing the banjo since the age of 4. From the first time he picked up the instrument he fell in the love and began playing in church three times a week. He enjoyed playing bluegrass and gospel so much he decided to form his own band and asked his brother Grayson to play guitar. Grayson, age 12, has been playing guitar for 3 years and loves the Jimmy Martin style of bluegrass. Their dad Benjie Riddle plays upright bass and grandad Butch rounds out the band on dobro.

Hailing from the beautiful mountain state of West Virginia, the Hillbilly Gypsies have been making and performing their own brand of old time bluegrass and original mountain music for over a decade. Formed in 2001 from a chance meeting at the now infamous Wednesday night old time jam in Morgantown, West Virginia, the Hillbilly Gypsies have been pickin’ and grinnin’ and entertaining their loyal fans ever since.

9th Annual Janette Carter Gospel Show, Sunday

Janette CarterSunday, November 20th, 2016, at 2:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a special gospel concert by Carson Peters and Iron Mountain and Ronnie Williams and Friends. Tim White and Teddy Helton will be two of the musicians helping Ronnie. 2016 marks the ninth annual gospel event in honor of Janette Carter. Admission to the concert is $10 for adults, children ages 6 to 11 $3, under age 6 free. Tickets will be available only at the door on the day of the concert. Doors will open at 1:00 p.m.
