UVa-Wise Bluegrass Band in The Crooked Road Youth Music Series

UVa-Wise Bluegrass BandAbingdon, VA -- The Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail presents a Youth Music Series concert on Thursday, May 8th, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Heartwood: Southwest Virginia’s Artisan Gateway in Abingdon, Virginia. The concert will feature the UVa-Wise Bluegrass Band from Wise County.

3rd Annual Crooked Road Youth Music Festival May 10

Gravel Road, Photo by Chelsa YoderAbingdon, VA –Youth musicians from throughout Southwest Virginia will be featured at the 3rd Annual Crooked Road Youth Music Festival on Saturday, May 10th from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Heartwood in Abingdon. 25 bands will perform on two stages throughout the day, and an “Old Time Square Dance” will take place inside Heartwood from 5-7 p.m. The square dance will feature Shawn Brenneman, caller, and The Lee Highway String Band.

The concert will feature some of the finest youth talent in Southwest Virginia: The Loose Strings Band, Tyler Hughes, and Kitty Amaral & Friends.

The special concert, co-hosted by WVTF Radio as part of Public Radio Music Month and the Town of Abingdon, will feature the Blackberries.

New Spring Valley Boys at The Crooked Road Youth Music Series Concert

New Spring Valley BoysThe Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail proudly presents a Youth Music Series Concert on Thursday, March 14th at 6:00 p.m. at Heartwood: Southwest Virginia’s Artisan Gateway. The concert will feature the New Spring Valley Boys from Grayson County. The New Spring Valley Boys grew out of the Albert Hash Memorial Band Program, directed by Emily Spencer, in Grayson County Public Schools. The band’s distinctive style merges the driving sounds of the Galax, VA, fiddle styles; the Round Peak, NC, styles of clawhammer banjo; and the rhythmic sound of old time guitar.

Joe BevinsThe Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail proudly presents a Youth Music Series concert on Thursday, December 13th at 6:00 p.m. at Heartwood: Southwest Virginia’s Artisan Gateway. The concert will feature the Tower Street Stringband. The Crooked Road Music Series features youth music performers, as well as showcasing venues of the Crooked Road region. Abingdon Crooked Road Festival Presents Youth Music Showcase

Adam McPeak and Mountain ThunderAbingdon, VA -- The Crooked Road, in partnership with the Town of Abingdon, will present a Youth Music Showcase to kick off the first ever Abingdon Crooked Road Festival. On Friday, October 5th, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at Latture Field in Abingdon, the festival will open with performances by three outstanding regional youth groups: The Wright Kids, Adam McPeak & Mountain Thunder, and The Iron Mountain Ridgerunners.

The concert will feature the Yates Family Band and Raisin’ Cain. Acoustic, mountain and bluegrass music will be performed throughout the concert series.
