39th SPBGMA Bluegrass America Showcase of Bands Oct 11-14

Bluegrass BrigadeFrom October 11 through October 14, The Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (SPBGMA) will again host their America Showcase of Bands at the Northeast Missouri fairgrounds on Highweay 11 East, Kirksville, Missouri. Camping and Jamming are a favorite part of this annual event.

Leftover Salmon Fall Tour 2012Leftover Salmon kicked off the start of their Fall Tour at Mr. Smalls in Pittsburgh, PA October 2nd with their Special Guest Liz Berlin of Rusted Root. After that they’ve got lots of great shows coming up, including two more camping festivals before this festival season comes to a close, a return to the Boulder Theater for two night to celebrate Thanksgiving weekend, Strings and Sol in Tulum, Mexico in December, and for New Year’s Eve they will be heating up the Midwest with a four-night run! There are lots of stops along this tour that the band has not traveled to in many years, plus they will be armed with their New Album Aquatic Hitchhiker.

Valerie Smith to Perform for South Jackson Educational Outreach Series

Valerie SmithValerie Smith this coming week will appearing at the South Jackson Civic Center, first on Friday morning for Winchester, TN schools for educational purposes, then Valerie and her band will be performing at the South Jackson Civic Center in Tulllahoma, TN, Saturday evening at 7:30 PM. She's bold, bright and just boiling over with energy and excitement to spare, She's one of the genre's few true divas and you'll never get her mixed up with anyone else! The Educational Outreach Series offers quality programming at affordable prices for schools. Through study guides and discussions, we hope to develop critical thinking skills.

Wanda Jackson, Connie Smith, JD McPherson, and Pokey LaFarge & the South City Three are also on the bill.

Bill Lowe and Cripple CreekHiltons, VA -- Bill Lowe heads up the wonderful old time band, Cripple Creek. The Cripple Creek band was established over thirty years ago, and they’re still going strong. This down-home group represents the best of old time music, and they’ve performed at the Carter Fold many times. Bill does the group’s lead vocals, emcees, and plays guitar. His wife, Connie, plays upright bass and does vocals. Ben Carpenter plays mandolin; his grandfather was an old time fiddler. Mike Crane plays banjo. Barbara Khuns does the group’s fiddling. She’s a national old time fiddling champion, and has won numerous awards. Doug Smith plays bass and sings lead and harmony. Glen Harold is the final member of Cripple Creek.
