Uncle Shuffelo and His Haint Hollow HootenannyHiltons, VA -- Saturday, August 5th, 2017, at 7:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia will present a concert of old time music by Uncle Shuffelo and His Haint Hollow Hootenanny. This weekend would normally be our annual Carter Family Memorial Festival, but it has been moved to the first weekend of November in honor of the release of the first Carter Family 78 record on the 4th of November in 1927. Our annual festivals in the future will take place the first weekend of November as well.

Mountain Park Old Time BandHiltons, VA -- Saturday, July 22nd, 2017, at 7:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert by the Mountain Park Old Time Band. Mountain Park Old Time Band was formed ten years ago as a group of friends who happened to enjoy old time music got together to have a good time. Over the past several years, the Mountain Park Old Time Band has been creating a stir in old time music circles.

Mathan Holt Announces No 2018 Bluegrass on the Plains

Auburn, AL -- By now, the entire bluegrass community and beyond has either met Mathan Holt or knows his reputation of being one of the most successful festival producers and broad-thinkers in our genre of music. Mathan launched Bluegrass On The Plains in 2011 at his large and first-class campground, University Station RV Resort, a venue he originally built to accommodate fans of Auburn University's Tigers Football program.

This summer the Birthplace of Country Music (BCM) celebrates the 90th anniversary of the legendary 1927 Bristol Sessions recordings with an exciting series of panels, performances, premieres, and promotions showcasing the deep impact of the Sessions. Kicking off on July 15 with a symposium featuring Ralph Peer II, Barry Mazor, and the producers of the PBS documentary American Epic, the celebration continues through the award-winning Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion music festival September 15-17, 2017.

Blue Ridge Music Center Hosts Mountain Music Dance Party

 Slate Mountain RamblersGalax, VA -- The Blue Ridge Music Center will kick off the Fourth of July holiday weekend with a Mountain Music Dance Party featuring two of the region's most popular old-time string bands, the Slate Mountain Ramblers and The Zephyr Lightning Bolts on July 1. The performance is part of the Roots of American Music summer concert series presented at the Music Center's beautiful, outdoor amphitheater, located at milepost 213 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. This evening features a free flatfoot dance workshop led by Marianne Kovatch of The Chestnut School of the Arts prior to the show. The workshop will be held from 6:15 - 6:45 p.m. and the concert begins at 7 p.m. A concert ticket must be purchased to attend the workshop.

If you ever saw Larry Sigmon and the Unique Sound of the Mountains, you know the sound was unlike anything you ever heard before. Over the course of more than ten albums and several years of performing, Larry Sigmon and his late partner Barbara Poole continuously brought the house down with a variety of fast-paced mountain music tunes fueled by Sigmon's high-speed claw hammer banjo picking and Poole's infectious "heartbeat" bass plucking. While there were several groups out there that could get you onto the dance floor, no old time band could wear out your clogging shoes faster than the Unique Sound of the Mountains.

Hillbilly GypsiesHiltons, VA -- Saturday, May 20, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert by the Hillbilly Gypsies. Hailing from the beautiful mountain state of West Virginia, the Hillbilly Gypsies have been making and performing their own brand of old time bluegrass and original mountain music for over a decade. Formed in 2001 from a chance meeting at the now infamous Wednesday night old time jam in Morgantown, West Virginia, the Hillbilly Gypsies have been pickin' and grinnin' and entertaining their loyal fans ever since.
