Mountain Faith to America's Got Talent Semi-Finals

Mountain Faith BandThe bluegrass music community has been watching in anticipation as a family band from Sylva, NC has been progressing through America's Got Talent competition. From their first appearance, this band has shown America's households what bluegrass music can be. The band's high energy level, great professional presentation, happy and cheerful attitude and a wonderful sense of presence has helped propel them into the semi-finals of the competition.

FreshGrass Award Finalists Confirmed

FreshGrassNorth Adams, MA -- Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art’s (MASS MoCA) FreshGrass celebrates the freshest talent on the bluegrass stage with 19 finalists participating in the 2015 FreshGrass Award Contest. Finalists in the band, duo, banjo, and fiddle categories perform for a panel led by Grammy Award-winner and master banjoist Alison Brown on Saturday and Sunday of the festival, with winners announced on Sunday afternoon. Open for all festival-goers, the contests showcase the future of bluegrass and roots music when the bands play original and traditional tunes. With cash and prizes totaling $25,000, winners receive a performance spot at next year’s festival, recording sessions at Compass Records, and hand-crafted instruments from Deering and Eastman. FreshGrass hosts three days of music, with almost 50 acts taking the stage in North Adams on September 18-20, 2015.

Mon Man Camp is looking or fun, creative videos of candidates performing a Bill Monroe composition, and telling us why this music is important to them! 2014 FreshGrass Award Open for Submissions

MASS MoCANorth Adams, MA -- The FreshGrass Award, a highlight of the eponymous three-day bluegrass and roots music festival held each fall at MASS MoCA, crowns up-and-coming musicians who offer a fresh take on the genre. Now in its second year, the Award expands from one category to three - giving unsigned bands, duos, and banjo players a chance to compete for cash prizes totaling $15,000, recording time at Compass Records' studio in Nashville, and a main stage slot at FreshGrass 2015. The competition, judged by a panel of industry professionals, is held concurrently with the festival on September 19-21, 2014, and contest performances are open to the festival audience.

ASU Old Time Fiddlers Convention Saturday, February 8th, 2014

Sons of BluegrassThe sixth annual Old Time Fiddlers Convention is just around the corner! The convention takes place Saturday, February 8th, 2014 at the Plemmons Student Union on the campus of Appalachian State University, Boone, NC. This is an all day event. The Fiddlers Convention is free to the public, though there is an entry fee for the competitions. Registration begins at 10:00am, check the 2014 Competition Schedule for contest times. The 2014 Convention registration for competing is $5, admission is FREE to all. The event features luthiers gathering, jamming, workshops, and competitions for adult and youth.

Grand Master Fiddler Championship at Country Music Hall of Fame

Grand Master FiddlerThe 2013 42nd Grand Master Fiddler Championship (GMFC) will be held on August 30 and 31 at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, TN. Since 2005, the championship was held along with the International Bluegrass Music Association's (IBMA) World of Bluegrass trade show and convention in Nashville. The IBMA will hold their event in Raleigh, North Carolina now. The Grand Master Fiddler Championship will remain rooted in Nashville, Tennessee and the 2013 competition will take place at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Competitions will follow the same format as previous years.

Walnut Valley FestivalThe Walnut Valley Festival is over. The flags and tents are coming down. The various instrument competitions are finally over and the winners have been announced. Walnut Valley Festival offers attendees great entertainment and artists but, its probably the most famous for its various national and international instrument championships. Many of those competitions focus on the very instruments found in bluegrass music. Banjo, Flat Pick Guitar, Mandolin, Old-Time Fiddle and more attract musicians from around the globe to compete for the various awards.

Alleghany County Fiddlers ConventionThe Alleghany County Fiddlers Convention will be held Friday, July 2th and Saturday, July 21st at the Higgins Agricultural Fairgrounds in Sparta, North Carolina. The convention features competitions in Old-Time and Bluegrass music and has both adult and youth categories. In addition to fiddling, there are also a dance contest and other instrumental competitions. All in all, ribbons and $2,850 in cash prizes will be awarded.
