Yadkinville, NC -- The quality and diversity of North Carolina's traditional music scene will be on display during the third annual Sounds of the Mountains concert series in January at the Willingham Theater in Yadkinville, North Carolina. The series is a collaboration between the Blue Ridge Music Center and the Yadkin Cultural Arts Center The performances will feature old-time mountain music, progressive bluegrass, and contemporary Americana with some of the Old North State's best roots and traditional performers including Chatham County Line (Raleigh), The Jeff Little Trio (Todd), and the Snyder Family Band (Lexington).

Galax, VA -- The Blue Ridge Music Center will kick off the Fourth of July holiday weekend with a Mountain Music Dance Party featuring two of the region's most popular old-time string bands, the Slate Mountain Ramblers and The Zephyr Lightning Bolts on July 1. The performance is part of the Roots of American Music summer concert series presented at the Music Center's beautiful, outdoor amphitheater, located at milepost 213 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. This evening features a free flatfoot dance workshop led by Marianne Kovatch of The Chestnut School of the Arts prior to the show. The workshop will be held from 6:15 - 6:45 p.m. and the concert begins at 7 p.m. A concert ticket must be purchased to attend the workshop.

Winston-Salem, NC -- The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation is honored to be named a grant recipient by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). Today, the NEA announced awards totaling more than $27.6 million in its first funding round of fiscal year 2016, including an Art Works award of $15,000 to the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation to support summer music programming at the Blue Ridge Music Center.

Galax, VA -- California-based instrument maker Bob Thornburg will give a FREE lecture and presentation about the construction of replica banjos and the intriguing history of the instrument on Saturday, July 11, at 6 p.m. at the Blue Ridge Music Center. The talk coincides with Thornburg’s exhibit, Banjos: From Africa to the New World, which features two dozen reproduction/replica banjos representing the instrument’s roots in Africa, the New World and its evolution in the pre-Civil War, Minstrel, and pre-factory eras. The exhibit closes Monday, July 13, so this is a great opportunity for visitors to learn more about Thornburg’s work and a beloved instrument in Appalachian music.
