South 40 Films is producing a documentary on Peter Rowan's amazing career and are seeking financial assistance through their Kickstarter Program for "The Tao of Bluegrass." Peter Rowan is a one of a kind singer with an astonishing vocal range and an instantly recognizable voice.

Bill MonroeBoston, MA -- In 1965, a young Peter Rowan joined Bill Monroe & The Blue Grass Boys, recording fourteen songs with Monroe before leaving the band in 1967. Tony Rice is the premier blue grass/newgrass guitar player today. His stellar career has included stints with J.D. Crowe & The New South, and the David Grisman Quintet. He has had a successful solo career and also fronts his own quintet, The Tony Rice Unit. Together, they have toured as the Peter Rowan & Tony Rice Quartet, which ultimately produced two Rounder Records recordings. This package, Rowan & Rice performing the traditional sounds of Bill Monroe with The Travelin' McCourys, is of historic proportion.

Tony Rice Takes on Father of Bluegrass Music, Bill Monroe, on New Release

 The Bill Monroe CollectionOver the past year's Bill Monroe Centennial there have been numerous anthologies of various artists doing their versions of his music, restating the enormity of Bill Monroe's legacy on the entire field of bluegrass music. Tony Rice's The Bill Monroe Collection, due out on Rounder Records (division of Concord Music Group) on January 31, 2012, may have a somewhat different impact, in part because it is a collection by one artist only, recorded over a period of some 15 years. The material, consisting of major songs and instrumentals by Monroe, was recorded in a variety of band configurations over these years, allowing guitarist Rice to make his own unmistakable mark on bluegrass music.

A Prairie Home Companion Celebrates Bill Monroe

Bill MonroeMurray, KY -- A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor will honor the life of Bill Monroe with a special performance on Saturday, November 5th at Murray State University's CFSB Center in Murray, KY. The performance will feature an impressive lineup of Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys performing Monroe's music and sharing stories of life on the road with the legendary artist. Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys first appeared on the Grand Ole Opry in 1939 and soon became a popular touring band out of Nashville's WSM Studios. Over the years, Monroe's elite group of Blue Grass Boys have included many successful musicians, such as Earl Scruggs, Lester Flatt, and Del McCoury, who would eventually move on to form their own highly successful bands.
