Cumberland River and More Perform for Ronald McDonald House Benefit

Cumberland River Scottown, OH (July 30, 2013) -- Cumberland River is proud to announce they will perform at the AU2 Rally in the Valley on Saturday, August 24 supporting the Huntington, West Virginia chapter of the Ronald McDonald House. The event will be held at the home of the Appalachian Uprising festival on Eden Valley Farm in Scottown, Ohio.

Carter Family Fold Presents Wry Straw Reunion July 13

Wry StrawHiltons, VA -- No longer performing as a trio, all are incredibly talented in their own right and continue to perform old time music today. John McCutcheon may be a folk music phenom now, but in his Virginia youth he played with a low-key Appalachian old-time string band Wry Straw. The trio, which consists of the Gammy-nominated John McCutcheon, Tom Bledsoe, and Rich Kirby, will play a reunion concert at the Fold which will have the feel of homecoming for the musicians as well as their audience. Though the trio hasn’t played together in over 30 years, all three have impacted the world of mountain music independently. Saturday, July 13th, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a special reunion concert by Wry Straw - an old time band that often performed at the Fold when it was still in its’ infancy. Admission to the concert is $10 for adults, $1 for children 6 to11, under age 6 free.

Mountain Park Old Time Band Stirs Up The Carter Fold June 29th

Mountain Park Old-Time BandOver the past several years, the Mountain Park Old Time Band has been creating a stir in old time music circles. The group has five members, all of whom are versatile and talented musicians. Johnny Gentry plays guitar, dobro, and fiddle as well as doing vocals for the band. Nancy Gentry plays upright bass and sings. The only thing better than one fiddler, is two fiddlers. Roger Stamper also plays the fiddle. C. T. Janney plays the washboard – an “instrument” rarely played today. Dr. Mark Handy plays banjo and does vocals. When he’s not playing old time, Dr. Handy practices medicine in Abingdon, Virginia. Saturday, June 29th, 2013, at 7:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert by the Mountain Park Old Time Band. Admission tothe concert is $8 for adults, children 6 to 11 $1, under age 6 free.
