Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme OutThe 1927 Historic Capitol Theatre in Chambersburg, PA will be presenting Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out along with other fantastic bluegrass shows this season in their A Night of Bluegrass series beginning November 2nd. The programs will kick off with A Night of Bluegrass starring The Bluegrass Brothers. Then, on January 25, 2014, A Night of Bluegrass will present David Davis and The Warrior River Boys along with The Hillbilly Gypsies. Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out highlight the February 21, 2014 evening. Each A Night of Bluegrass will present the best of today's bluegrass music by award winning artists.

James King - Special Annual Gospel Tribute for Janette Carter Nov 17

James King BandHiltons, VA -- Sunday, November 17th, 2013, at 2:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a special gospel concert by the James King Band. James has been named SPBGMA Traditional Male Vocalist of the Year seven times. 2013 marks the sixth annual gospel event in honor of Janette Carter. Admission to the concert is $10 for adults, children ages 6 to 11 $3, under age 6 free. Tickets will be available only at the door on the day of the concert. Doors will open at 1:00 p.m.

Wayne Henderson and Friends Perform at Carter Fold

Wayne HendersonWayne Henderson’s top-notch finger-picking is a source of great pleasure and pride to his friends, family, and neighbors in Grayson County, Virginia. His guitar playing has also been enjoyed at Carnegie Hall, in three national tours of Masters of the Steel-String Guitar, and in seven nations in Asia. In addition to his reputation as a guitarist, Henderson is a luthier of great renown.

Kilby Spencer and the Crooked Road Ramblers Play Carter Fold

Crooked Road RamblersHiltons, VA -- The Crooked Road Ramblers play traditional old time dance music from the mountains of Virginia and North Carolina. Members of the band are Kilby Spencer on fiddle, John Perry on guitar, Peco Watson on clawhammer banjo, Donald Hill on guitar and vocals, Wayne Dye on mandolin, and Karen Carr on bass and vocals. Most of the band are second and third-generation musicians who now play old time mountain music influenced by their families and communities. Saturday, October 26th, 2013, at 7:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert by Kilby Spencer and the Crooked Road Ramblers. Admission to the concert is $8 for adults, $1 for children 6 to 11, under age 6 free.

Hot Rize Flood Benefit at CU Macky Auditorium Nov. 7

Hot RizeOn November 7th at the University of Colorado Macky Auditorium in Boulder, Colorado, bluegrass artists Hot Rize with Red Knuckles & The Trailblazers will be presenting a benefit concert to aid victims of the recent Colorado floods. In mid September, the rains came to Colorado and they just kept on coming. Much of the area north of Denver and around the Boulder region were flooded including Craig Ferguson's famed Planet Bluegrass that hosts the annual RockyGrass bluegrass festival. From Longmont to southern Colorado Springs, 100 miles away, flooding was evident as several inches of rain dropped every hour. Rivers were swollen and washed out roads, bridges and homes.

Larry Sparks to Perform at the Cameo in Bristol October 25th

Larry Sparks & Junior Sisk Headline 5th Bluegrass for Hospice

Larry SparksGreat Mills, MD -- Bluegrass for Hospice-2013 will be held on Saturday October 26. Not only is the event celebrating its 5th year, but headliner, Larry Sparks is celebrating his 50th year in Bluegrass music. Bluegrass for Hospice-2013 will be held at the Flat Iron Farm in Great Mills, Maryland. It is located on Flat Iron Road just 1.5 miles from MD Route 5. The event begins at Noon with gates opening at 11:00 am. All proceeds for the day go to support the Hospice House of St. Mary’s County.

Mountain Music School Stringband Featured at Heartwood

Mountain Music School StringbandAbingdon, VA -- The Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail presents a Youth Music Performance Series concert on Thursday, October 10th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Heartwood: Southwest Virginia’s Artisan Gateway in Abingdon, Virginia. The concert will feature the Mountain Music School Stringband. Mountain Empire Community College has long been one of the region’s leading institutions in preserving and promoting traditional mountain arts, crafts, and music. It was nine years ago that their effort to celebrate Old Time music was kicked into high gear with the summer program, Mountain Music School.

Mountain Park Old Time Band Returns to Historic Carter Family Fold

Mountain Park Old-Time BandOver the past several years, the Mountain Park Old Time Band has been creating a stir in old time music circles. The group has five members, all of whom are versatile and talented musicians. Johnny Gentry plays guitar, dobro, and fiddle as well as doing vocals for the band. Nancy Gentry plays upright bass and sings. The only thing better than one fiddler, is two fiddlers. Roger Stamper also plays the fiddle. C. T. Janney plays the washboard – an “instrument” rarely played today. Dr. Mark Handy plays banjo and does vocals. When he’s not playing old time, Dr. Handy practices medicine in Abingdon, Virginia. Saturday, October 19th, 2013, at 7:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert by the Mountain Park Old Time Band. Admission to the concert is $10 for adults, children 6 to 11 $1, under age 6 free.

Town Mountain to Perform at IBMM

Town MountainAsheville, NC -- Congratulations to Town Mountain and their lead vocalist Robert Greer on winning 2013 IBMA Momentum Awards. Robert Greer takes home the Momentum Award for "Vocalist of the Year" and Town Mountain takes the honor for "Performance Band of the Year." The awards cap off a year of fantastic growth for the band which began with the release of their sophomore Pinecastle Records album, Leave the Bottle. The band is pumped for next year and kicks off festival season with performances at Mountain Song at Sea, Wintergrass, Suwannee Springfest, MerleFest and others to be announced.

Benefit Concert for The Little Pantry That Could

Whitetop Mountain Band Returns to Carter Family Fold Oct. 6

Whitetop Mountain BandHiltons, VA -- Whitetop Mountain Band is a family-based band from the highest mountains of Virginia. Whitetop is an area rich in old time music tradition, and this band has deep roots in mountain music. The band’s members have worked tirelessly to preserve the region’s style of old time fiddling and banjo picking and are legendary musicians and teachers of the style. Their shows are high energy and unlike any other show you have ever seen. There’s everything from fiddle and banjo instrumentals to powerful solos and harmony vocals on blues, classic country, honky tonk, traditional bluegrass numbers, old timey ballads, originals, four-part mountain gospel songs – and some flat foot dancing. Well-known for their charisma on stage and their ability to engage audiences of all ages, this group has been performing at the Carter Fold since shows first began at the A.P. Carter Grocery in the 1970s.
