Carter Fold Hosts Raymond McLain & Morehead State Mountain Music Ambassadors

Raymond McLain and the Morehead State Mountain Music AmbassadorsHiltons, VA -- Raymond McLain has been performing at Carter Family shows since Janette Carter first began presenting concerts in the old A.P. Carter Grocery in 1974 – first with his family, the McLain Family Band – and later with ETSU when he was head of the ETSU Bluegrass, Old Time, and Country Music program. Raymond is currently the Director of the Kentucky Center for Traditional Music at Morehead State University. He also performs, produces, and records. Raymond serves on the Carter Music Center’s board of directors in addition to serving as the Artistic Director at the Fold. Raymond’s father served on the Music Center’s board from the time it was created in 1979. When his father died, Raymond agreed to occupy the board seat his dad once held. The long and loving friendship between the McLain and Carter families dates back nearly 40 years to the early 1970s.

ACMA Presents the 18th Annual Leon Kiser Concert February 22nd

Leon KiserBristol, TN/VA -- The Appalachian Cultural Music Association will present the 18th Annual Leon Kiser Memorial-Tribute Concert on Saturday, February 22nd at the Foundation Event Facility in Bristol, Tennessee. Proceeds from the concert go to two scholarships at East Tennessee State University for their bluegrass, old time and country music program. The scholarships are the Benny Sims Scholarship and the ACMA Leon Kiser Memorial Scholarship. The concert will feature bluegrass, old-time, gospel and country bands performing.

Raymond McLain, Sr., (now deceased) formed the family band in the late 1960s when his five children were very young. Mr. McLain was a Carter Family Memorial Music Center board member from the day the center was created. Saturday, January 5th, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert of bluegrass music by the McLain Family Band. Admission to the concert is $10 for adults, $1 for children 6 to 11, under age 6 free.

His son Raymond now serves on the Music Center's board of directors in addition to serving as the Artistic Director at the Fold. Raymond is Director of the Kentucky Center for Traditional Music at Morehead State University. He also performs, produces, and records. Saturday, March 10th, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert of bluegrass music by Raymond McLain and Mike Stevens. Backing them up will be some of the finest musicians from the region. Admission to the concert is $7 for adults, $1 for children 6 to 11, under age 6 free.
