Del McCoury Band, Lee Ann Womack, Keller Williams on Wide Open Bluegrass

Wide Open Bluegrass 2014Nashville, TN -- To celebrate the 75th birthday of one of the most respected artists in contemporary bluegrass, a special 90-minute set, “Del McCoury Band with special guests Lee Ann Womack and Keller Williams”, will take place on Saturday, October 4 during the Wide Open Bluegrass festival. Wide Open Bluegrass is part of the International Bluegrass Music Association’s World of Bluegrass event, which takes place September 30 – October 4 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

IBMA Film Festival to Launch During WOB 2014

Known as bluegrass music’s biggest night of the year, the International Bluegrass Music Awards acknowledges the year’s outstanding talent and achievements, honors new Hall of Fame inductees, and waves the worldwide flag for bluegrass music.

Lee and WillowThis year, the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) has selected Lee Ann Womack and Jerry Douglas to host their annual Bluegrass Music Awards Show. The Bluegrass Awards Show is the grand finale of the annual convention, World of Bluegrass. The Awards show is attended by bluegrass artists, professionals, and yes, fans. This year, the IBMA again has selected a host from outside the Bluegrass community. As in years past when they have done this, bluegrassers always ask the question: "Why?" Why don't we promote our own artists for this event?

Doyle Lawson & Del McCoury Hall of Fame Plaques Unveiled

Doyle Lawson, Del McCoury Hall of Fame 2014Owensboro, KY -- Award winning bluegrass music artists and Hall of Fame inductees Doyle Lawson (2012) and Del McCoury (2011) had their Hall of Fame plaques unveiled at this year's ROMP festival. The International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) has a committee that selects the inductees for each year. The two artists saw their Hall of Fame Plaques unveiled between sets at ROMP Fest in Owensboro this past Thursday. Both the Del McCoury Band and Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver performed during ROMP on Thursday. The plaque unveiling is a major tribute to these Hall of Fame Inductees.

Kruger Brothers To Debut New Concerto at IBMA's WOB

Kruger BrothersNashville, TN (June 10, 2014) — World-renowned trio The Kruger Brothers will debut a new concerto, “Lucid Dreamer,” during the Wide Open Bluegrass festival in Raleigh, NC this fall. The new piece, commissioned by the Kontras Quartet through Chamber Music America, will be performed by the Kruger Brothers with the Kontras Quartet on Saturday, October 4, at 1:20 pm in the Raleigh Convention Center.

Bluegrass Innovator and Pioneer George Shuffler has Died

George Shuffler Bluegrass Hall of Fame Recipient, George Shuffler passed away yesterday, April 7th, just shy of his 89th birthday. Shuffler was born in Valdese, North Carolina on April 15, 1925. Affectionately known as "The Third Stanley Brother" performed on many of bluegrass music's most historic recordings. George toured 20 years with the Stanley Brothers where he developed his unique cross picking guitar style that has been a big influence to many musicians. He was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Hall of Fame in 2011 and was a recipient of the North Carolina Heritage Award in 2007. In 2011, Shuffler was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Association's Hall of Fame along with Del McCoury. George Shuffler’s influences in bluegrass are as an innovative bass player, guitar stylist and featured vocalist and humorist, primarily as a sideman in some of the most important bands in the music’s history.

IBMA, American Steamboat Present Bourbon & Bluegrass Riverboat Cruise

Bourbon & Bluegrass CruiseThe American Steamboat Company and IBMA have teamed up to produce two nine-day “Bourbon & Bluegrass” riverboat cruises on the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers, from St Louis to Cincinnati Aug. 29-Sept. 6, and then back from Cincinnati to St. Louis from Sept. 5-13 (guests spend one night in a hotel before embarking on the American Queen).
