Birthplacee of Country Music to Begin New Museum Construction Nov. 1

BCMA StaffBristol, TN/VA - Thursday morning at 11:00am the Birthplace of Country Music announced that fundraising for the Birthplace of Country Music Museum is now complete and construction will begin on the former Goodpasture Motors building, located on the corners of Moore and Cumberland Streets in Historic Downtown Bristol, VA, the first of November. The expected completion date for the project is August 2014, just in time for fans coming to the twin cities for the summer race at Bristol Motor Speedway and Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion.

With the continuing support of local governments, The Crooked Road has been able to market and promote the unique musical and cultural heritage of the region - including the Blue Ridge Institute and Museum of Ferrum College - statewide, nationally, and internationally. As a result of these efforts, the nineteen counties, over 50 towns, and four cities of Southwest Virginia (as defined by the Commonwealth of Virginia) have become a major destination for visitors from throughout the nation and overseas.

The Dust Busters are an old-time string band based out of Brooklyn, New York, influenced and inspired by the direct fusion of Scots-Irish and African music that took place in Appalachia, the Western states and the Deep South from the earliest colonial times through the Second World War. Vince Gill/BCMA/ Performances and exclusive interviews from the August 21st taping of Mountain Stage, hosted by Larry Groce, are now available on Mountain Stage's YouTube Channel. Vince Gill, Jim Lauderdale, Red Molly, David Mayfield Parade and John Lilly all performed during the sold-out event at The Paramount Center for the Arts here in Bristol, The Birthplace of Country Music.

BCMA Receives $1.7 Million Toward Cultural Heritage Center

Bristol Cultural Heritage CenterBristol, TN/VA -- The Birthplace of Country Music Alliance (BCMA) has been granted $1.7 million from the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission to aid in completion of the Cultural Heritage Center in Historic Downtown Bristol. Renovation of the site, located on Cumberland and Moore Streets, is ongoing with a projected completion date of 2013.
