Shady Grove Band Performs Free Concert Featuring PineCone Students

PineCone—the Piedmont Council of Traditional MusicJoin PineCone and the Town of Cary for a special night of music on Friday, July 1 featuring The Shady Grove Band and students from the PineCone Bluegrass Music Camp. The camp included students ages 8-16 learning guitar, fiddle, mandolin and banjo. Charles Pettee of Shady Grove taught the guitar and mandolin tracks, while John Currie instructed the students in the fiddle and banjo tracks. This concert is the culmination of the week-long camp, but may be just the beginning for this next generation of musicians!

Bluegrass Gospel Project Has Busy July Concert Schedule Planned

Bluegrass Gospel ProjectThe Bluegrass Gospel Project (BGP) will have a busy July concert run going. BGP comments about their upcoming concerts saying, "They're all good, and the one we're most excited about is July 22 & 23 near Woodstock, VT (see our calendar page for tickets, info, and links). SummerGrass 2011 is being put on by our good friends at Pentangle Arts and promises to be two music-filled days of notable bluegrass heavies including Del McCoury, Ricky Skaggs, Sam Bush, Infamous Stringdusters, Sierra Hull, and us. We'll be playing two sets each day and doing a workshop on Saturday.

A project has already begun to build a special surfaced and equiped recreation facility to host baseball and similar recreational events but a tremendous amount of funding is required to see the park to completion. The park when completed would serve the residence of North Georgia and Chattanooga, Tennessee. Paul Byrum and Tom Brown plan to help the fund raising and public awareness effort by creating a Bluegrass Bands Helping Hands Volume III CD - Big Leagues.

They are regulars at the Christmas in July Festival, the Albert Hash Festival, the Rugby Fall Festival, the Greater Lansing Area Festival, and the Wayne Henderson Festival. While this is quite a ways off, the exciting part is that the Cherryholmes brothers will be carrying the family torch and continuing the music. Their sister Cia is still performing also.

On June 17th, Cybergrass announced that Michael would introduce the new band at the Jenny Broook Bluegrass Festival in Turnbridge Vermont. Yesterday, the formal band lineup was announced.
