Blue Highway to Perform on Song of the Mountains August 6th

Vince Gill Celebrates 20-Years as Grand Ole Opry Member

Bluegrass in the Ko'olausBluegrass in the Ko'olaus, a weekend event that features homemade bluegrass and traditional music in a spectacular setting, will take place at Kaneohe's Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden from Friday, September 9 through Sunday, September 11. The event, hosted by Bluegrass Hawai'i Traditional & Bluegrass Music Society, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is free though donations are welcome.

New Music Video by Cumberland River

Cumberland RiverRural Rhythm Records is proud to announce The Alternate Root is hosting the band's world premiere of the new music video, "Cold & Withered Heart" by Cumberland River. The video was filmed on location in the band's hometown of Harlan, Kentucky in the Jones Creek area. It is a lighthearted twist on their original song written by Cumberland River band member, Jamie Dean (lead vocals and banjo) who is joined by band members: Dustin Middleton (mandolin and harmony vocals), Andy Buckner (guitar and harmony vocals); Joey Jones (bass); and Jamie Stewart (Dobro.) The video was directed and filmed by Anthony Ladd, Kneelindesign.

Skeeter and the Skidmarks Slide in to Carter Fold August 20th

Skeeter and the SkidmarksLike their name, the Skidmarks’ music is unique. In the world of old time music – music usually associated with barn dances and community get-togethers – this group stands out. The band was formed in the 1990s. They took a hiatus from their music briefly, but they’re now back on the road. Edwin Lacey is featured on banjo. Scott Freeman plays fiddle and mandolin. Willard Gayheart plays guitar, and Sandy Glover plays bass. Saturday, August 20th, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert of bluegrass and old time music by Skeeter and the Skidmarks. Johnny and Sammy Butten Get a Second Chance for Permanent Residence

Johnny ButtenIn March of this year, award winning bluegrass banjoist Johnny Butten was informed that the United States wasn't going to renew his visa and that he would be forced to return to England. Many wrote letter in support of Johnny and his family to remain in America. He had an endorsement with Recording King, had built up a new band Telegraph Road and was active on the bluegrass circuit. That all came to an immediate halt. Today, there is good news. Johnny, Sammy and the family will get a new visa and can begin the permanent resident process again.
