Kathy Boyd & Phoenix RisingIndependent bluegrass artists were recognized the 2016 early honors award winners by the International Music and Entertainment Association. Along with the August announcement of the 2016 International Music and Entertainment Association award nominees came news of this year’s Early Honors Award Winners – which were nearly a clean sweep by bluegrass artists!

Early Honors Bluegrass Album of the Year went to Kevin Pace and the Early Edition with their 2016 release “I Want to Go Home”. Based out of Spokane, Washington, this traditional bluegrass album is a celebration of the simple life and features original tunes mostly written by band leader Kevin.

Early Honors Bluegrass Song of the Year was awarded to Oregon based band Kathy Boyd & Phoenix Rising for their single “Let Her Roll”. Written by Nevada based great American songwriter Steve Spurgin and rearranged into a rolling romp of merry murder and mayhem this fun tune has also been nominated for IMEA Americana Song of the Year.

Not in the bluegrass genre, but also from the Pacific Northwest, Jennifer Thomas brought home the Early Honors Award for Holiday Album of the Year with her multi-award winning Album “Winter Symphony”.

Christian/Gospel Album of the Year Early Honors went to East Coaster Samie Bisaso for his million pieces album.

Awards still to be announced at the IMEA Awards ceremony to be held on October 8th in Murfreesboro, Tennessee include Bluegrass Group of the year. Up for the award are Kathy Boyd & Phoenix Rising (Tualatin, OR), Kevin Pace and the Early Edition (Spokane, WA), Ned Crisp and Bottomline (Ashland, KY) and Open Rail (Galipolis, OH).
