Live On Arrival“Bluegrass Signal” is pleased and proud to announce the release of a new album to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of radio station KALW in San Francisco. Live On Arrival is a collection of twenty-one concert and festival recordings from notable Bay Area bluegrass and old time bands. Most have never been released; all feature the excitement and power typical of live recordings, and demonstrate the depth and breath of talent in this region.

Many beloved musical veterans are part of Live On Arrival, including David Grisman, Kathy Kallick, Jody Stecher & Kate Brislin, and Butch Waller & High Country. There are also a number of the next generation of stars: Molly Tuttle, AJ Lee, Melody Walker, Jacob Groopman, members of Steep Ravine and Windy Hill. Old time music is well-represented — the Evie Ladin Band, Bucking Mules, and Thompson String Ticklers — as is the thriving club scene. And, yes, there’s even a live performance of John Reischman’s fabulous “Bluegrass Signal” theme.

Live On Arrival joins the previous "Bluegrass Signal" compilation, In the Deep Rolling Hills Of San Francisco, which also included previously-unreleased and live recordings from the likes of the Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band, Laurie Lewis & the Right Hands, the Stairwell Sisters, and many others.

Both albums are featured as part of a special broadcast on Sat., Sept. 17 (6:30 - 8 pm Pacific Time) on www.KALW.org. The program will then be archived for one week at www.KALW.org/local-music-player (select ‘Bluegrass Signal’). “Bluegrass Signal” has been produced and hosted since 1995 on KALW by Peter Thompson, who also produced both compilation CDs.
