Mountain HeartProgressive bluegrass band Mountain Heart rove way beyond the confines of the bluegrass genre, adding a bit of soul ala the SteelDrivers and a bit of pure-bred country ala Chris Stapleton. In other words, we are talking about great Southern music here, underpinned with virtuosic musicianship full of heart and soul. Mountain Heart will be releasing Blue Skies on Compass Records, May 6th.

Mountain Heart recently announced their new partnership and an upcoming studio album, their first since 2010! It’s been five years since Mountain Heart released a new album, and they are stoked to finally have new music to share with their fans! The band commented, "Writing and touring throughout this stretch has allowed us time to gather what we feel is the best batch of songs we’ve ever recorded. We went to a studio in Asheville, NC and recorded the project we’ve always wanted to make, and because this is a self-produced record, we didn’t have any major deadlines or constraints working against us. We simply let down our guard and played and sang with passion and energy just like we do on stage every night."

Mountain Heart is the band that has been fearlessly revolutionizing the way acoustic music can be presented and played. The band’s name has been synonymous with cutting-edge excellence in acoustic music circles since the group’s creation in 1999. Mountain Heart’s musical virtuosity – the band is comprised of top call studio pros at every position, unmatched energy, and keen sense of entertainment dynamics have helped them to forge a highly unique sound and stage show which appeals to an ever growing variety of musical tastes. From large outdoor folk music and bluegrass festivals, to sold-out shows opening for Southern Rock icons like The Marshall Tucker Band, The Tedeshi Trucks Band or Lynyrd Skynyrd, Mountain Heart always makes an undeniable connection with an audience. This rare combination makes Mountain Heart one of the more versatile musical acts ever assembled.

Throughout the band’s storied history, members past and present have dedicated their time, talent, and creativity to the group, leading to their hard earned reputation as one of the most exciting and unforgettable live shows anywhere in the world. With a new team in place, Mountain Heart is beyond excited for this new beginning and journey ahead.

Almost all of the new songs were written within the band, and because they were sung and played completely live you can really feel the connection between song and singer. Each track is full of emotion and we really feel like our band alchemy has finally been captured the way we’ve always wanted. There were no rules, so we used everything from lap steel, mandolin, piano, fiddle, banjo, accordion, guitar, and percussion, to Hammond Organ, cello, and even a trashcan. No, really. :) We had a blast making music together, and we captured it all on tape!
