Sierra Hull - Weighted MindNashville, TN -- Singer and mandolinist Sierra Hull has announced the first dates of her winter tour, which will begin on January 28 in Nashville, TN. Weighted Mind, Hull’s long-anticipated new album – her first in five years -- will be released on January 29, 2016.

The recording, which was produced by 15-time Grammy winner Béla Fleck, includes eleven new compositions written or co-written by Hull, and one traditional song (for which she and Fleck provided a new arrangement).

Hull’s abundant gifts as a songwriter and interpreter are on full display on Weighted Mind, which includes powerful, emotionally resonant songs such as “Wings of the Dawn,” which was inspired by a favorite Psalm, the stirring “Compass,” and the gentle, affecting “Lullaby,” written for her mother.

While Hull’s ethereal voice and fluid playing take center stage here, she receives ample support from her touring partner, bassist Ethan Jodziewicz. Fleck’s banjo makes an appearance on the elegant ““Queen of Hearts/Royal Tea,” and the album closes on an uplifting, optimistic note with “Black River,” a song which features guest appearances by Fleck, Rhiannon Giddens, Alison Krauss, and Abigail Washburn.

After Hull’s performance at this summer’s RockyGrass Festival, the Huffington Post’s Michael Bialas applauded her “bold, progressive” new material, noting, “she's ready to expand her musical boundaries while still showing the nifty skills that have earned eight nominations by the International Bluegrass Music Association.” The Roanoke Times’ Tad Dickens was similarly effusive in a recent concert review. “With a voice reminiscent of her mentor, Alison Krauss, and an instrumental style that leans toward what Chris Thile has been up to, Hull had more than enough personal firepower to shine in that small lineup.”

The album will be available soon for pre-order at www.sierrahull.com, and more tour dates will be announced shortly.
