North Adams, MA -- FreshGrass, Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA)’s annual festival of bluegrass and roots music, returns to the museum campus in North Adams, Mass. on September 16-18, 2016. Three-day festival passes are available now at 2014 prices.
Limited-time, 2014 pricing for a three-day ticket is $89 for adults, $79 for students, and $43 for kids 7-16. Children aged 6 and under are admitted free. Incremental price increases take place as the lineup is announced. Single-day tickets are offered closer to the event on a limited basis. The festival is held rain or shine.
In addition to over 50 acts of world-class bluegrass and roots music, festival programming includes daily instrumentation workshops with industry experts, camping, children’s programming, and local food and beverages. Admission to MASS MoCA's spacious, light-filled galleries — where festival-goers find concerts set amidst dramatically scaled exhibitions of contemporary art — is included with festival admission.
The FreshGrass Award returns with contests in four categories — band, duo, banjo, and fiddle. Prizes include over $25,000 in cash, recording time, and a spot on the lineup at the following year’s festival. The 2015 FreshGrass Band Award winner, Old Salt Union, performs onstage at the 2016 festival. The first lineup announcement takes place in early 2016.
“Though a relative newcomer to the bluegrass festival circuit, FreshGrass has shirked any notion that they should emulate what other events are doing, and are reliably assembling outstanding musicians, some of whom are titans of music history and others lesser known. One thing ties them together though: all of them need to be heard” (Elmore Magazine).
Tickets are available through the MASS MoCA box office located on Marshall Street in North Adams, open 11am to 5pm every day except Tuesdays through spring 2016. Tickets can also be charged by phone by calling 413.662.2111 during box office hours or purchased online at www.MassMoCA.org.
FreshGrass Festival details will be updated on www.FreshGrass.com, and on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. FreshGrass is a wonderland of bluegrass and roots music, rich in both traditional and cutting-edge bluegrass, presented in a wide array of venues tucked appropriated into a 19th-century factory turned 21st-century museum in the Berkshire Mountains of western Massachusetts. FreshGrass is held annually over three days at the end of September.
