Stephen MouginJoelton, TN -- His thirst for bettering the bluegrass world is never really quenched. Teacher, professional guitarist, studio and record label owner Stephen Mougin has accepted a position as the new director for The Renaissance Bluegrass Band at Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee, effective August 1st.

“I'm thrilled at the opportunity to combine my passion for teaching with my passion for bluegrass,” Mougin says. “Bethel University has built a solid platform for their students to learn, grow, and excel. I hope to build on the current format, put the Bluegrass Band in front of more fans, and give the students the experience they deserve.”

The Renaissance Bluegrass Band is a high-energy extra-curricular program that offers scholarships to performers. The students who play in the band gain a unique performing experience, and are encouraged to become empowered, uplifting, and inspiring entertainers through Ministry and performance opportunities.

"At Bethel we strive to give our students the best opportunities possible,” says Matthew Holt, Executive Director of Renaissance. “Stephen brings years of professional experience, an exceptional performance ability, and a unique learning opportunity for our students."
Mougin says, “I will continue my touring schedule, but will be reducing some private lessons, studio work, and band coaching to accommodate my new position.”

In 2012 The Renaissance Bluegrass Band took the stage at the Big Lick Bluegrass Festival in Oakboro, NC. They were invited back to the Festival in 2013 as one of the four premier acts. Also in 2013 the group performed at the Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center with Bluegrass icon Rhonda Vincent. The group also released their first CD in the spring of 2013. In 2014 the group returned to the stage of the Big Lick Festival as well as playing at Puckett’s Grocery in Leiper’s Fork with Country Music Artist David Ball.

The Renaissance Bluegrass Band are currently working on Bethel Bluegrass bookings for fall 2014 and spring 2015. Please contact Stephen at
