Andy was the 2011 National Flatpicking Guitar Champion at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, KS. He also took second place in the mandolin contest at the 2012 Walnut Valley Festival, after a third place finish in the mandolin contest the year before. Bluegrass Express was founded in 1980 by the father-son team of Gary and Greg Underwood and has performed extensively ever since, from Michigan to Mississippi and all points in between. The band is currently in the studio working a brand new recording project that will feature all original songs, with special guest Tim Crouch on fiddle.

Bluegrass Express features band founder and patriarch Gary Underwood on guitar, fiddle and vocals. Greg Underwood, who also toured with the Cox Family while maintaining his commitment to Bluegrass Express, is featured on bass and vocals. Seventeen year old third generation member Jacob Underwood is the recent winner of the banjo, fiddle and mandolin contests at Woodstock, IL Harvest Fest and can be heard on banjo, fiddle, and vocals, with Andy Hatfield rounding out the group.
