Flying Fish recording artists The Shady Grove Band showcase the music, good times, and humor of North Carolina and the South. This group has been performing coast to coast here in the United States, Canada and Western Europe since 1981. The Shady Grove band has taken a music that originated in our southern states, filled it with new vitality, and taken it to such lofty heights as the Lincoln Center in New York City.

One of America's only original music forms, bluegrass music was conceived in the late 1930s by such greats as Bill Monroe, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. Formed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, this band has become famous for its great music and entertaining show throughout two continents. Growing up in North Carolina, the members of The Shady Grove Band learned about the music through the strong folk tradition of their state. This experience has allowed them to play traditional music from the heart while also writing and creating new music that is a part of this vital living tradition.

The band's accomplishments since 1981 have been numerous and prestigious. These musicians have performed at many of the largest music festivals in the United States, Canada and Europe and have appeared on CBS and NBC television nationwide. Having toured Europe on 13 month-long concert tours, this group has also maintained a busy club, college and concert schedule throughout the United States. Selected 15times for the North Carolina Arts Council Touring Program, the band has also held such honors as the Southern Arts federation Touring Artists Roster and South Carolina Artists Roster.

With six critically acclaimed recordings to their credit, The Shady Grove Band brings together the traditions that created bluegrass, and the loving spontaneity that creates new traditions.

This concert is free and open to the public. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets, family and friends, and enjoy an evening of great music under the stars. You can learn more about this concert and other music programs by visiting PineCone online at
