Steep Canyon RangersAbingdon, VA -- The Town of Abingdon has partnered with Barter Theatre and Bonefire Brands to launch the kick off of the Abingdon Music Experience and a series of concerts every Saturday in January. The third concert in the January Jams series at Barter Theatre presented by Eastman Credit Union will feature the Steep Canyon Rangers with The Black Lillies opening. These two bands will perform LIVE this Saturday, January 19th on the Barter Theatre Main Stage.

From Brevard, North Carolina, The Steep Canyon Rangers are an American bluegrass band. Before embarking on a world tour backing comedian/banjoist Steve Martin, the Rangers were nominated for two International Bluegrass Music awards in 2008 (including Album of the Year, "Lovin' Pretty Women).

The Rangers were also named 'Emerging Artist of the Year' in 2006 at the IBMA awards ceremony in Nashville, TN. The group performs heavily on the Bluegrass and Americana music circuit including festivals like MerleFest, Telluride, Grey Fox, DelFest and RockyGrass. Abroad, Steep Canyon Rangers have performed shows and festivals in Sweden, Ireland, England, Germany, Switzerland and Canada. On June 13, 2011, the Steep Canyon Rangers signed with Rounder Records.

Opening for the Steep Canyon Rangers are The Black Lillies, an Americana band from Knoxville, Tennessee that was founded in early 2009. The Black Lillies made an immediate impact on Knoxville's growing music scene and the band was selected to play the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, Bristol's Rhythm & Roots Reunion, Pickathon, Four Corners Folk Festival, Pagosa Folk & Bluegrass, Rhythm & Blooms, and many other national festivals.

The Black Lillies made their debut performance on the Grand Ole Opry on June 17, 2011. The band was the first independent artist from the Knoxville area to be featured on the Grand Ole Opry, and made history again by being invited back multiple times - appearing five times in just four months.

Doors will open at 7:15pm and the shows will start at 8pm. Tickets are $35. You can get tickets by calling Barter Theatre Box Office at 276-628-3991 or by going online at
