If there’s a living king and crown prince of bluegrass, it’s Del McCoury and Sam Bush. And we here at The Sitch are simply over the moon to have spent time in their royal presence at The Birchmere Theatre in Alexandria, Virginia this November, just as they were warming up for the first night of their unprecedented duo tour.
And speaking of unprecedented, just wait ’til you get to 2:25. We won’t spoil what happens, suffice it to say... well. Just watch.
Sam and Del McCoury are teaming up for a highly anticipated string of tour dates that began in November 2012. The performances, "An Acoustic Evening with Del McCoury and Sam Bush," brought two of the finest bluegrass music artists together for a series of rare appearances. To quote Sam, “I first saw Del at the Roanoke Bluegrass Festival in 1966 and have been waiting for this opportunity to tour together ever since. We invite you to come join the fun as two old friends make music and swap stories onstage.”
Del McCoury has one of the most-storied careers in Bluegrass history. His award collection includes a Grammy, as well as numerous Grammy nominations, nine IBMA Entertainer of the Year Awards, membership in the Grand Ole Opry, and a National Heritage Fellowship. He has collaborated with everyone from Dierks Bentley to Phish, and has his own festival, DelFest, coming up on it's sixth year. His most recent release is a tribute to Bill Monroe entitled Old Memories: The Songs of Bill Monroe on McCoury Music.
Though both Sam & Del grew up playing traditional bluegrass, their openness to expanding the genre has set them apart in recent years bringing numerous young fans to the music. Watch for additional dates to be announced during the year.
