Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

Tony Rice & Chris ScottThe family of John Christian "Chris" Scott will host a reception and concert celebrating his life this Sunday, August 21, from 7:00-9:30 p.m., in the courtyard of beautiful Chinqua Penn Plantation near Reidsville, North Carolina. Chris lost his life in an accident in Burlington, NC this past Wednesday, August 17, 2011. The photo was Chris' birthday in August 2010; Tony had just presented him with the Accutron he's holding.

The Rice Family is honored to share an unforgettable evening of great music from artists who will perform in Chris' memory. Anyone wishing to come and enjoy the music with the families will be welcome.

Artists greatly admired by Chris, Tony, India, and Pamela Rice, and the Rice family, will perform at the event. Amazingly gifted musician and vocalist Jessica Mashburn will perform from 7:15-8:15, followed by a set from some of the most promising new stars on the acoustic horizon, the wonderful Church Sisters and their family band.

"We hope that anyone wishing to pay their respects to our son Chris, his wife Betsy, and his four children Donovan, Aaron, Victoria, and Levi will attend and enjoy the beautiful music and setting with us," said Tony and Pamela Rice in a statement. "We are humbled and overwhelmed with all the messages of condolence that continue to pour in from friends and fans around the globe. There is no way we can possibly respond as we would like, but we have been deeply touched and uplifted by every message.

"With this celebration of Chris' life at Chinqua Penn, a place most dear to his heart and to ours, and with music from artists we greatly admire, we would like to convey our gratitude and appreciation to every friend and fan and stranger who reached out to us at this terrible time. Our hearts are filled with appreciation for the support, and especially for all the prayers we needed so desperately… prayers we will continue to need as we move forward in life without his physical presence. Losing Chris is devastating, but we are profoundly grateful for his life, and for that of his brother Roman, whom we lost in August 2001. We are grateful to both our sons for the wonderful children they brought into this world before they departed it, and for their beautiful wives, Betsy and Mindy, both of whom we look upon now as our daughters. We hope you will be able to come and enjoy some beautiful music with us in this beautiful place, in honor of Chris and his life."

The family invites those who wish to attend to wear whatever they find most comfortable, and to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic baskets if they like; no adult beverages, please. Cold soft drinks will be available. The reception will be held in the courtyard at Chinqua Penn; the rest of the plantation will be closed for the duration of the memorial.

Chinqua Penn Plantation located at 2138 Wentworth Street, Reidsville, NC 27320 is near US Highway 29 Business and Highway 158, just west of Reidsville, North Carolina.
