X-Train was featured at the Tucson Bluegrass Festival in 2010, and they have performed at the well-known Huck Finn Bluegrass Festival in Victorville, California, as well as the Picking in the Pines Bluegrass Festival in Flagstaff. They have also toured Australia and New Zealand. Ross, Peter and Bob performed together throughout the west in the 1980's. They won the Telluride Bluegrass Band Competition in 1988 and Wickenburg Bluegrass Festivals, and they have continued to perform together off and on.
Ross Nickerson has been touring in the US, Canada, Europe and Australia over the last decade and has recorded a CD with members of the acclaimed bluegrass band, Blue Highway, but he still calls Arizona his home away from home. Former National Flat Picking Champion, Peter McLaughlin has played all over Arizona, the US, and Europe.
Well-known to LAVA audiences, he has performed twice at Music on the Mountain with The Dreadnutts and at Abounding Grace with both The Dreadnutts and Sonoran Dogs. He has toured extensively with Laurie Lewis, and he is a member of John Coinman's band.
X-Train also features mandolinist Mark Miracle, a lights-out picker who founded the group Clear, winners of the Telluride Band Contest in 2000, and he was a founding member of Sawmill Road. Bob Denoncourt, X-Train's bass player who has worked with Peter and Ross for many years, is a veteran of top bluegrass bands all over the US.
Bob's extensive bluegrass experience goes back to being a member of Don Stover's White Oak Mountain Boys and stints with Joe Val. X-Train's music features Ross's hard-driving banjo style along with the highly-skilled picking of Peter, Mark, and Bob with lots of three-part traditional bluegrass vocals. They have a ton of fun on stage, and audiences always leave with a smile.
