Nashville Music Seminar with Dick McVey Set for Beckley, West Virginia

Dick McVeyNashville, TN -- Former Beckley, West Virginia area native Dick McVey returns home to conduct a seminar on the music business on August 11, 2012 at the Old Federal Courthouse, RESA 1 at 400 Neville Street, Beckley, WV starting at 10 am. The six-hour seminar will run from 10 am to 5 pm with a one-hour break for lunch. McVey will cover subjects like how to book yourself or your band, how to present yourself to a major record label, how to get your song recorded, how to care for your voice and many other topics. A question and answer session will follow each segment. The subject matter will cover general and specific needs for Gospel, rock, country and bluegrass music.

McVey’s credits include more than 500 appearances on the Grand Ole Opry as a bass guitarist; handling publicity for George Jones; awards for “Independent Producer Of The Year”, “Publicity Company Of The Year” “Who’s Who In America”, “Ambassador Of Music”, and “Top Ten Musician Of The Year”. He was Senior Editor for Performance magazine and received gold and platinum records for his work with George Jones, Vince Gill and others. He has played bass guitar for more than 20 major artists including Trace Adkins, Holly Dunn and Little Jimmy Dickens.

When asked why he was returning to his hometown area for the seminar, McVey says his reasons are two-fold, “First, I want to educate the people in my home area about the music business, so they can make realistic and educated decisions about their careers. There are so many people who lose thousands of dollars to scams in the music business and this seminar should help keep that from happening. Secondly, I want to show them that they can achieve their goals if they work hard. Dreams do come true and I’m living proof.”

The fee for attending is $25 per person if you register before August 1 and $30 per person after that. A special student rate of $15 is available for persons 18 years of age and younger. Seating is limited so persons are advised to register early. The seminar is being sponsored by Beni Holley Artists, an agency in Beckley that represents touring artists (www.beniholley.com).
